I am always looking for great finds in NYC. The first criteria when selecting a hotel is location. I am a theater-goer and foodie so both of these needs were met by my new find THE TUSCANY, A ST. GILES BOUTIQUE HOTEL located at 120 East 39th Street, right near Grand Central and within walking distance of the theater district: www.stgiles.com/new-york-hotels/ This newly renovated jewel of a hotel with 123 residential-style guestrooms and suites is a perfect place to enjoy New York City any time of year.

What I find particularly wonderful is that the rooms have over-sized living areas so you don’t feel cramped. The hotel was built in 1927 as an apartment and later converted to a hotel in the 1950’s so the space is fantastic. Most guestrooms average 350 square feet! Both studios and lofts feature hardwood floor entryways, modern over-sized bathrooms and contemporary furnishings.

If you want to go for the bigger bucks, there is 17th floor Penthouse Suite featuring a wrap-around terrace offering stunning views of the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building. Talk about the lap of luxury, enter your own private floor, offering more than 1,700 square feet of indoor and 1,800 of outdoor space.   Outfitted with a full kitchen, featuring premium appliances and accessories, the Penthouse is perfect of entertaining. It has two separate bedrooms and is a great space for a luxury stay or for private events.

I love the size of the modern bathrooms as well, newly updated and filled with Molton Brown amenities. I adore the softness of the towels, linens, and Frette bathrobes and slippers(always a test of a good hotel). All the rooms include state-of-the-art multifunction iPhone/iPad docking stations, LCD flat-screen 46-inch televisions, and very generous closet space. There is an iron and ironing board, a safe (key for me), and digital movies on demand. There is a huge fully equipped 24-hour fitness center available and complimentary WIFI in all guest rooms and public spaces. The desk is really large with 5 electrical outlets, key for a traveler with iPhones, iPads etc. Each morning I went to the lobby to get my complimentary New York Times and Wall Street Journal and if I needed my fix of gossip, the newsstand on the corner has the New York Post and Daily News. If I didn’t want to leave my room, I had a Kuerig coffee machine in my room with lots of flavors and all the accompanying necessities including Truvia and cream.

If you are a business traveler you might want to consider staying in the 400 square foot studio, 450 square foot deluxe studio, 500 square foot loft and 700 square foot loft suites. There is a customized concierge service available, which includes in-room flower arrangements, personal shopping, use of the house car/limousine, massage, and external spa services and grocery stocking for the suites.

Location, location, location. I found this hotel to be situated perfectly for me to walk to theatre, to check out my fave store Uniqlo, to grab a lovely manicure at Trevi Nails a half block away, and best of all to visit the Grand Central Terminal Market With noshes from Eli Zabar, Murray’s cheese, and Oren’s Daily Roast, you can snack to your heart’s delight.

The hotel is also very quiet considering it is in the middle of Midtown New York City! There is a fabulous young vibe at this jewel of a hotel. The staff is ultra-friendly, and go out of their way to make you feel as if you are home. Shane greeted us at the desk with a smile and a Southern accent and hospitality that is the feeling that is prevalent at the hotel. When I had a problem with a boarding pass, Shane was on it. Carlos at the door was also friendly and all the staff gave wonderful suggestions during my stay.

The prices are very reasonable for this kind of quality and consistency in service. You might even feel like you are “Cheers” where everybody knows your name. Where else can you find this kind of warmth, location, space, or excellence of service in New York City?
