Tomatensalat is a German version of Tomato Salad, ideally paired with casseroles or roasts. Tomatoes arrived in Germany in the mid-eighteenth century. This simple recipe is one of the originals.

Ingredients
- 5 tomatoes; medium, chopped
- 1 Tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon basil; dried
- 1/4 teaspoon thyme; dried
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper; freshly ground
- 1/2 Cup vegetable oil
- 6 Tablespoons vinegar
- 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 onion; large, diced
Instructions
- Blend all ingredients together and chill for 1 hour before serving.
- Optionally, serve on lettuce leaves.
