A wonderful, crunchy pickle makes a great accompaniment to sandwiches, picnics and barbecues.

Spiced Pickles
Recipe type: Pickles
Serves: 1 batch
  • 200 small pickles
  • 1 pound sugar
  • 2 ounces mustard, dry
  • 1 Cup salt
  • 1 Quart cider vinegar
  • 2 ounces cloves, whole
  • 2 ounces cinnamon
  1. Scald the pickles in boiling water. Drain. Mix together the cinnamon and cloves.
  2. Place a layer of pickles in a crock and sprinkle with the spice mixture; repeat until crock is filled.
  3. Combine the sugar, salt, mustard and vinegar and bring to a boil and cook about 5 minutes.
  4. Pour brine over the pickles, filling the crock. (More brine may be needed, depending on size of pickles). Cover crock and let stand in a cold place.
