Fruity Oatmeal

Serves: 4
  • 2 Cups water
  • 2 Cups milk
  • 2 Cups regular (not instant) rolled oats
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 Cup raisins or chopped pitted prunes
  • 2 apples or firm pears; shredded
  • ground cinnamon
  • milk or cream; warmed, for serving
  • brown sugar; for serving
  1. In a heavy saucepan, combine water, milk, oats and salt; place over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil, cover, reduce heat to achieve a simmer, and cook for 5 minutes. Stir in the prunes, apples and cinnamon to taste; continue to simmer, stirring frequently, until tender, about 5 minutes more. Spoon into bowls. Pass milk and sugar at the table.
