Sauteed Apples
Cuisine: British
Author: Kitchens
  • 6 large apples, Granny Smith or other good cooking apples
  • 1 Tablespoon lemon juice
  • 4 Tablespoons butter
  • 1 Tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 Cup cold water
  • 6 Tablespoons brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • dash nutmeg
  1. Peel the apples; core and slice into thin slices. Toss with lemon juice as you add slices to a bowl to keep them from turning brown.
  2. In a large saucepan or skillet, melt the butter; add apple slices and sauté over medium heat, stirring constantly, for about 6 to 10 minutes or until tender and just beginning to change color.
  3. Combine cornstarch and water; stir into the apples. Gently stir in the brown sugar and spices. Bring to a simmer; reduce heat and simmer for about 3 to 5 minutes, stirring a few times.
  4. As a dessert, serve warm with vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
  5. Serve plain as a side dish to accompany pork dishes.
