  • 1/3 Cup sugar
  • 1/3 Cup butter
  • 1 Tablespoon shortening
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 Cup flour
  • 5 apples; Winesap, Gala or Golden Delicious
  • 8 ounces cream cheese; at room temperature
  • 1/4 Cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated lemon peel
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • cinnamon sugar
  • 1/2 Cup sliced almonds
  1. Cream sugar, butter, shortening and vanilla.
  2. Blend in flour and pat into bottom and 1 1/2 inches up sides of greased 9 inch spring form pan.
  3. Place in 400 degrees F oven for 15 minutes.
  4. Pare and slice apples to make 1 quart (4 cups).
  1. Beat cream cheese, sugar, egg, lemon peel, vanilla and salt until smooth. Pour over pastry.
  2. Top with apple slices, cinnamon sugar and nuts.
  3. Bake at 400 degrees F for 40 minutes.
