  • 1 Cup chopped onions, with their juice
  • 3 Cups peeled, cored, and diced apples
  • 7 Cups soft bread crumbs
  • 3/4 Cup melted butter
  • 1 Cup seedless raisins; parboiled, drained
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly-ground black pepper
  • 1/2 Cup minced parsley
  • 1 garlic clove; minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated mace
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground sage
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • unsalted butter, for buttering the dish
  1. Mix all ingredients thoroughly.
  2. Heat oven to 325 degrees F. Butter a 13x9-inch (3-quart) glass baking dish with unsalted butter.
  3. Bake uncovered 50 to 60 minutes or until well browned.
