Angel Food Cake is soft as a heavenly cloud, pure white, with a golden crust and divinely sweet to the palate.  It is best when accompanied by berries, fruit or chocolate.

  • 11 egg whites (1 1/2 Cups)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 Cup flour
  • 1 1/2 Cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  1. Beat egg whites at medium speed until foamy, 1 minute. Add salt and cream of tartar. Continue beating until stiff peaks form, 5 to 6 minutes.
  2. Sift flour and sugar twice together in separate bowl. Fold into egg white mixture, 2 tablespoons at a time. Fold in vanilla extract.
  3. Turn into ungreased 9-inch tube pan.
  4. Bake at 375 degrees until pale golden, 40 minutes. Invert pan on cake rack to cool.
  5. This recipe yields 12 to 14 servings.
