In the Southwest, the Rio Grande is king, not just the well-known, and much-admired river, but this exceptionally delectable cocktail.  Cucumber mellows the spicy, tangy flavors.

  • 2 ounces cucumber, sliced
  • 1 slice jalapeño, seeded
  • 1 lemon wedge
  • 4 ounces sour mix
  • 1 1/2 ounces reposado tequila
  • 1 ounce melon liqueur
  1. In small shaker, muddle cucumber, jalapeño and lemon; fill with ice to top. Add sour mix, tequila and melon liqueur; shake and double strain into martini glass.
  2. Garnish with cucumber slice.
You may optionally add 1/4 teaspoon chopped cilantro to this drink. Reserve 1 cilantro leaf for additional garnish.
