The Radler Cocktail is a favorite summertime drink in Austria and a delicious variation of the Shandy, with homemade lemon soda (perfect on its own) with chilled beer.  Wunderbar!

The Austrian version of the Shandy.

  • 4 ounces freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 ounces Simple Syrup (recipe follows)
  • 6 ounces club soda or seltzer, chilled
  • 12 ounces ice cold lager beer
  • lemon slices, for garnish
Simple Syrup
  • 1 Cup water
  • 2 Cups sugar
  1. To make the lemon soda, stir together the lemon juice and simple syrup in a small pitcher. Pour in the club soda. Stir.
  2. Pour 6 ounces of the lemon soda into each of two beer glasses. Add 6 ounces of beer to each glass. Stir and serve with lemon slices.
Simple Syrup
  1. Add water and sugar to a medium saucepan. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring often, until the sugar is dissolved and the syrup thickens.
  2. Cool and keep in an airtight jar to use in all your summer drinks.
