Ingredients
  • 2 apples, one Red Delicious, one Golden Delicious or Granny Smith, washed and thinly sliced across (seeds removed)
  • juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 1/2 pound black grapes, rinsed and dried, each cut in half
  • 1/2 pound green grapes, rinsed and dried, each cut in half
  • 1 lemon, washed and sliced thin (seeds removed)
  • 1/2 Cup dark rum
  • 1 large pumpkin (large enough to hold a punchbowl)
  • 4 bottles of white wine, chilled (Chardonnay, Chablis, Cava or Reisling)
Instructions
  1. Cut the grapes and set aside.
  2. Prepare the apples and squeeze the lemon juice over them. Combine with the grapes and sliced lemon.
  3. Pour the rum over the fruit and allow to macerate.
  4. Cut the pumpkin and remove seeds and any soft flesh with a strong metal spoon. (See notes about glass bowl insert.)
  5. Add the fruit and rum to the pumpkin and pour in the wine.
  6. Serve immediately, including grapes, apple and lemon with each serving.
Notes
Not everyone likes the flavor of pumpkin, even though this recipe really doesn't impart any flavor from the pumpkin into the punch. To accommodate them, select a pumpkin large enough to hold a glass punchbowl. Cut the pumpkin to a depth sufficient to allow the bowl to be inserted, yet keeping the pumpkin base depth enough to reach the rim of the insert. Use a glass or silver ladle to serve the punch.
