Hot Apple Cranberry Cider

Ingredients
  • 1 fresh lemon
  • 1 fresh navel orange
  • 4 Cups fresh apple cider
  • 3 Cups 100% cranberry juice
  • 4 Tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 2 pieces (3-inch) cinnamon stick
  • 1 teaspoon whole allspice
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 1 (1/4-inch) piece peeled fresh ginger, thinly sliced
  • For Garnish
  • 8 pieces (3-inch) cinnamon stick
Instructions
  1. Shave the rind from lemon and orange carefully, using a potato peeler, avoiding the white pith beneath the rind.
  2. Cut shaved rind into 1- x 1/4-inch-thick strips.
  3. Combine the strips, apple cider, and remaining ingredients in a sauce pan.
  4. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, cooking until reduced to 6 cups (about 20 minutes).
  5. Strain the mixture through a sieve over a bowl, discarding solids.
  6. Place a cinnamon stick in each of 8 punch cups or mugs.
  7. Ladle 6 ounces of the cider mixture into each cup.
