The French ’75 is named for a piece of military artillery from World War I, a 75 millimeter cannon. Aptly named, it seems, as the pairing of gin and Champagne is explosive. The perfect drink to honor our Veterans.

Recipe type: Alcoholic Cocktails
Serves: 1
  • 2 teaspoons superfine sugar
  • 1 orange peel
  • 1 maraschino cherry
  • 1 1/2 fluid ounces gin
  • 1 1/2 fluid ounces lemon juice
  • 4 fluid ounces chilled Champagne
  1. In a shaker half-filled with ice cubes, combine the gin, sugar, and lemon juice.
  2. Shake well.
  3. Pour into a Champagne flute or Collins glass.
  4. Top with the Champagne.
  5. Stir well and garnish with the orange peel and the cherry.
