Irish Beer

  • 12 ounces beer or, preferably, Murphy's Irish Red, chilled
  • 1 ounce Irish whiskey, such as Jameson's
  1. Pour half the beer into a large beer glass, tumbler or beer mug.
  2. Add the whiskey.
  3. Top up with the remaining beer.
Irish red ales get their reddish hue from the small amounts of roasted barley they contain. Murphy's Irish Red was originally brewed as Lady's Well Ale in 1856. Lady's Well, located across from the company's brewery in Cork, has been a religious site for Catholics since the eighteenth century. Dutch beer juggernauts Heineken International purchased the brewery in 1983. This true Irish red is dry, crisp, hoppy and very carbonated with some signs of fruit and caramel. It pairs perfectly with whiskey, to make this delicious drink.
