Orange Liqueur

This simpler orange liqueur may be less complex in its ingredients or production, but its flavor is extraordinary. Just five simple ingredients and you have a delicious orange liqueur.
  • 4 medium oranges
  • 1 vanilla bean
  • 2 1/2 Cups vodka
  • 1 Cup brandy
  • 1 Cup sugar syrup (see recipe)
  1. Look for firm, heavy oranges which indicates lots of juice, and smooth-skinned ones free from soft spots and mold.
  2. Wash and peel oranges making sure to scrape ALL white rind from the peels to avoid bitter flavor.
  3. Add to liquor and vanilla bean.
  4. Steep 2-3 weeks, strain and filter.
  5. Add sugar syrup and let age for 4 weeks.
  6. The entire orange may also be used.
  7. Cut oranges into wedges and follow instructions.
  8. Gives opportunity to use blood oranges, tangerines, tangelos, or mandarin oranges.
  9. Cognac or brandy may be used as the base liquor.
  10. Container: Wide mouth 1/2 or 1 gallon jar.
