Frutti di Bosco

This Italian liqueur is made principally of wild berries, but may be made with oranges, pears or other fruits. It is refined and delicious.
Ingredients
  • 3 Cups vodka
  • 3 packages mixed frozen berries
  • 2 Cups sugar
  • 2 Cups of water
Instructions
  1. Heat sugar with the water over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved.
  2. Cool.
  3. Pour into a 2 quart container.
  4. Add desired fruit and the 3 cups of vodka. Stir gently and cover with a tightly covered lid.
  5. Let stand in a cool dark place for 2 to 4 weeks.
  6. Strain through several layers of cheesecloth.
  7. If not yet clear, pour again through a coffee filter.
  8. Seal tightly in a clean bottle and store.
  9. Variations: Orange Cordial: Peels from 3 oranges, peel only (remove pith).
  10. Pear: 6 medium Pears, peeled, cored and thinly sliced.
Notes
For a tasty after dinner drink, serve any of these cordials in glasses that have been chilled in the freezer one hour before serving. You can use almost any type of berry, but should adjust the sugar syrup as needed depending on the sweetness of the berries used. Make this great liqueur every year at Christmas. The mixed frozen berries make a great flavored cordial with a striking color.
