Native variety grown in Hungary. Once used as the main ingredient in “Egri Bikaver” (ie. “Bulls-blood), that countries best-known dry red wine blend. Currently the wine is a round, medium-bodied effort that ages fairly well (although the main ingredient is currently wine from the Blaufränkisch variety). The variety is also currently widely grown in Bulgaria where it is known as the Gamza variety.
