The term “American Whiskey” is not descriptive of any single type of whiskey. There are actually some 30 types of American Whiskies, but in the trade, the terms “straights,” “blends of straights,” and “spirit blends” broadly distinguish all types. In the United States the consumer perceives American Whiskies as “Rye” and “Bourbon”.
