Customer Rating: Summary: Awesome Comment: I thought the holder will be flimsy and cheap....since it's really cheap. But I was shocked to find it to be well designed and sturdy. The back and little feet at the bottom are covered in a soft material not to scratch the phone, and the two arms hold the phone securely enough for a .8g off-ramp mini race. The suction cup is large but leaves no doubt about it's effectiveness.
Top that off with the low price and this is the best piece of kit for your phone...get it now.
Customer Rating: Summary: Pretty good universal mount Comment: So when I bought this, it had said it was for the HTC EVO 4G, but I had thought it might just be a universal mount. In the end, it turns out it was a universal mount, as it doesn't extend far enough to hold the phone sideways. Since other phones are shown sideways, I can guarantee this just wasn't designed with EVO in mind. However, it's not too big of a deal since you can just turn the mount sideways.
I will give this a very positive review since it's such a great mount. It really holds the phone solidly; no jumping around or anything. The suction mount is also great as it doesn't fall like some other mounts. It's strong enough to even attach to the dashboard.
Also to the people complaining that they tried to pull the arms out and they broke... that would be expected. There's actually a button that you have to press for the arms to extend. Then you just squeeze it in on your phone.
Customer Rating: Summary: piece of crap !! Comment: first of all the suction cup isn't that great it falls after the end of the day each time ! The most annoying thing is the clip that hooks into the suction cup ...well it doesn't hook to the suction cup it s very wobbly ! is it a defective product I got ?? was it missing a piece I really don't know! unfortunately I don't think I can even return it ..when it fell under the passenger seat my son stepped on it and broke the clip ...
Customer Rating: Summary: Works as advertised, OK quality Comment: I just received this car mount and within a matter of seconds, I was able to assemble and mount my Evo 4G. There are no instructions included, but none is needed; it's pretty straight forward and if you're even the least bit handy, it will be easily put together.
The product comes in a box (~5x5x5 inches)disassembled as 3 parts: the base (with the suction cup), a flat-round piece, and the holder. I have no idea what the flat round piece is for, but it looks like it has adhesive on one side (and, in my case, I'm just going to use the suction cup, so I won't require the adhesive). The base and the holder are wrapped in plastic. The box is cheesy and reeks of cheap China-produced goods, but it plays no role in the function of the product, so not important, but for the sake of completeness, I thought I'd include it.
The plastic itself feels chintzy and brittle. You could step on it and I think it would break, however, I do not plan on it ever being on the floor or me ever stepping on it so, shouldn't be a problem. There are two buttons on the neck with stickers on them that say "Push". One button is for the adjusting the base of the neck up and down. The second button is for adjusting the top of the neck left and right. In addition, the top of the neck can also rotate 360 degrees. It is hard to imagine, but basically you can adjust this to your heart's content--you will most likely be able to adjust it so that you can see it at whatever angle you please.
The suction cup creates a pretty powerful vacuum and so I don't think I'll have problems with it coming detached from my windshield.
The holder is the piece that contacts with you device. It is clear how your device should be oriented when you mount it to this holder. There are three sides of contact: 2 sides and a bottom support. The sides adjust to the width of your device and the bottom, well, supports your device from falling through the bottom; but I suspect that you can adjust the sides so that the clamping force is enough to hold my device. It is also obvious that if you have a candy bar-shaped GPS device (like my phone) that you mount the phone upright, AND THEN rotate the neck for it to become horizontal; I found it comical that some people disassembled the sides/tried to fit it horizontally when it obviously can't/etc.
Anyway, all in all, it works as advertised and that's all that really matters. Like all things that mount to your windshield it will take up some of your viewing estate, but it is an insignificant amount if the location is chosen appropriately and shouldn't be a problem.
Like I've said in the beginning of this review, I just got it, and only time will tell how durable it is and until it fails on me, there is not much more to say except that I am kind of apprehensive about the reviewer that was concerned about the glue coming apart; hm....
Customer Rating: Summary: Not the best product for your HTC EVO ... but good for the price Comment: Well I received the car mount today. First problem no instructions. I tried to fit my EVO ... nope it doesn't fit! Well that stinks. I took the two feet off of one end and then the EVO fits .... BUT it moves around after putting the sides in as snug as I was able without breaking them. Yes the plastic is a little cheap, and if you over tighten it definitely seems like the pieces would break. Once I put the phone in I turned it sideways to test how snug my phone was. It was a little snugger but if you pulled just a little the phone comes out... this is probably the equivalent of a good bump in the road. If they made the feet where they were extendable this would be a great product for any phone ... but caution you do get what you pay for. I'm going to come up with a way to secure my phone better. The cost of these phones are too much to allow it to fall and break while driving.
