Yngwie Malmsteen's 2008 master piece is entitled Perpetual Flame, an 11-track CD bringing in a new line up of musicians featuring Tim "Ripper"Owens, the ex-vocalist of Judas Priest and Iced Earth. The album was produced by Yngwie, engineered and mixed by Roy Z (Judas Priest, White Snake, Rob Halford). Yngwie Malmsteen is one of Rock's premiere virtuoso guitarists. Yngwie has dominated the world of solo guitar for two decades. When he was barely 20, Yngwie exploded onto the music scene with his jaw-dropping technique of lightning fast harmonic minor scalar riffing. 12 tracks.

Customer Rating: Summary: Malmsteen Releases Great Album with Ripper Owens Comment: What can be said that hasn't been said before? Yngwie is one of the most creative guitarists ever. Taking blues and Blackmore and Hendrix and merging it with Paganini and Bach, the Maestro has truly created his own style! On this new CD, instead of utilizing singer Dougie White, he brings in Tim "Ripper" Owens, who currently sings with BEYOND FEAR and has done stints with the mighty JUDAS PRIEST and ICED EARTH. And like a grey DOD 250 Overdrive pedal taking a 1968 Marshall Amp to the next level, Ripper helps take Perpetual Flame to the next level of Kickass!
If you are a fan of neo-classical, metal, hard rock or GUITAR HERO, get this album.
If you have never hear of Malmsteen, get this album. Great addition to the Malmsteen Catalogue.
Thank you, and Good Night.
Customer Rating: Summary: The Flame still burns bright... Comment: Well the Flame still burns as bright as it ever did, the Master Musician has riffed the Stratocaster into the Stratosphere.*

*The album starts of with a nice classically influenced movement, then all hell is unleashed, with riffs and solo's flying from the fingers of Yngwie. The album is well and truly in flames by the time you get to the second track, and this is maintained throughout the whole musical journey that is Perpetual Flame.*
*Some notable changes come through the speakers by the time you get to /MAGIC CITY. The bluesy feel is enhanced by sitars and the whole psychedelic feel is mindblowing. This has to be without doubt one of the best tracks Yngwie has ever done, the pure Magic from the Wizards Fret board of that track is spellbinding./*

*The whole production is again a masterpiece of musicianship, with contributions from Tim/ (Vocals),/ Derek/ (Keys),/ and Patrik /(Drums)/ all of which show why Yngwie has them in Rising Force. The mastering of the album is also very well done, and I look forward to more new and re-mastered material on the Rising Force Label.*

*So as the dieing embers of the /Heavy Heart /track fades, it seems that YJM and Rising Force has once again produced an album that will stand as a great piece of heavy rock music.*

Customer Rating: Summary: It's Yngwie! Period. Comment: OK, maybe it sounds like the rest of his albums. OK, maybe he gets a little crazy with the shredding and the speed. But, why would you like him to change? Would you like AC/DC to sound differently? How about Maiden? Rush? I personally don't want to see Yngwie messing up his music like, for instance, Def Leppard did back in the 90's (Slang, anybody?). He is awesome at what he does and honestly we don't want him to change. People, the guy is GOOD! He is classically trained and one the finest guitar players and composers around, so get a life and instead of bashing him, enjoy his music. The Ripper is awesome here also, and shows he still got the pipes, which most singers would ever dream of having nowadays. Maybe this is no Alcatrazz or Rising Force, but it is a fine work nonetheless. I myself wouldn't have it any other way. Rock on!
Customer Rating: Summary: More is More Comment: On Yngwie's new release, Perpetual Flame, the instrumental Caprici Di Diablo is alone worth the price of admission, 100 times over. This instrumental is so over the top, that it seems physically impossible to play. It's a little tough to describe 4-octave 6-string arpeggios to someone, so it's best to imbibe on your own and experience sheer genius for yourself. In other words, go get this CD ASAP. As always, even though every solo is beyond extreme, Yngwie's articulation, precision, musicality, and his natural speed are at their finest on this project.
To explain Yngwie's evolution as a guitarist, let's just say that comparing his masterpiece 'Far Beyond the Sun' to his latest 'Caprici Di Diablo' is like comparing Mary Had a Little Lamb to Paganini's 21st caprice. Paganini himself would be proud to play along side Yngwie--two extremely talented musicians with extreme technical capabilities. Yngwie hasn't lost anything over the years. He's matured as a player and a composer and a musician. You can sense his enthusiasm for soloing in every song. My favorite songs with the excellent Ripper Owens on vocals are Death Dealer, Four Horsemen(not on the Japanese release), and Magic City. Magic City is an unreal bluesy tune with E-harmonic minor written all over it. The outro is incredible. By the way, the album cover is perfect--Yngwie's left hand never worked so hard in its life. Thank you to Yngwie for another masterpiece. Keep the Perpetual Flame burning forever.
Customer Rating: Summary: Ho Hum... Comment: .
Same chord progressions, same modulations, same cadences (Harmonic Minor V - i) with predictable diminished appeggio runs and harmonic minor sequences. Same guitar tone, same banal lyrics, same immature themes of dungeons and demons. Heck, even some of the song riffs are ripped off his own previous songs. The opening riff to "Damnation Game" is so similiar to "I'll See The Light Tonight" from the Marching Out album I couldn't help but laugh, "Caprici Di Diablo" uses very similar passages as found on his "Far Beyond The Sun" from his Rising Force Album, I wonder can he sue himself for breach of copyright ??? :-)
Sorry Yngwie, I really want to love each new album you release, but each time you dissapoint.
Remember when Yngwie came to prominence with his "Rising Force" album? I do! Of course, before that he was with Steeler (amusing at best, but an important step/time-filler for the Young Swede Viking fresh off the boat landed in LA) and then Alcatrazz (decent songs, some new ground, but with screaming and straining vocals). The Rising Force album was truly ground-breaking and awe-inspiring. I'm sure it resulted in many guitar players either giving up or burning out with tendonitis...
Come on Yngwie, where's your inspiration and originality? Do us (and yourself) a favour and recapture the true flame! Give us something fresh and new and exciting, something worth us paying for and worth you playing for... PLEASE !!!
