Labelle is back with one of the most anticipated recordings of 2008! Sounding every bit as sassy, fresh and edgy as in their heyday, Patti, Nona and Sarah have brought together some of the powerhouse talents of today & yesterday to create a true event. The first single 'Rollout' prominently features Wyclef Jean on an upbeat contemporary anthem that will expose Labelle to a whole new audience. Lenny Kravitz plays all over the three tracks he produced combining unique R&B retro sounds with his natural rock edge. The Masters of Philly Soul Kenneth Gamble & Leon A. Huff bring their magic to four of the album's ten tracks. The album closes with a recording of 'Miss Otis Regrets' from 1969. Produced by Kit Lambert.

Customer Rating: Summary: fantastic Comment: What can I say about labelle I love this CD. They be really what you call sanging not like these weak singers now except J. Hudson , Fantasia, and a few others. I hope they do more CD's its so nice to hear something different rather the formula crap that most artist making.
Customer Rating: Summary: 3 women almost 200 YEARS OLD in combined age..... Comment: What were they thinking?!! Older people I love have done some things they should be ashamed of, but I still love them. Miles Davis once said, "Don't play what's there, play what's not there". In Back to Now it's simply not there-and that's not in a good way. I'm sure they called a few other producers who replied,"Nona, Nona Hendrix? This Jimi's mama?!" I like what George Washington did for the country 200 years ago, but I don't want him contributing anything to society today or trying to sing like Wyclef. God bless them I'm sure they'll be on tour at a casino near you-pass me my points card and my freee drank.....
Customer Rating: Summary: Amazing Labelle!!!!! Comment: I've been waiting for Labelle to come back and sing to the world. It was a long wait, but worth it. I know they had to have as much fun making this cd as I did listening to it. It's like they never left us. There isn't one song I don't like on this cd. I agree that this is one of the best cd's that's out there for anyone who loves R&B. Keep singing ladies. I love it. Don't leave us again. R&B needs you.
Customer Rating: Summary: Labelle lost in the mix Comment: Labelle is my all-time favorite female group and perhaps the most powerful trio around. Maybe that's why I had such high expectations for this reunion album. The ladies did not disappoint so much as the dated production sound, lack of edge, and most of all, the mixing down of Nona and Sarah's vocals.
Labelle is like a choir unto themselves so mixing them down is NOT an option. Their trademark vocals are at the center of my love for them and I only heard the "real" Labelle on Dear Rosa, Miss Otis Regrets, Without You in My Life, and How Long. I guess I shouldn't compare this collection to Phoenix or Chameleon but I know that the girls can still kick it fiercely. I'll blame label execs for diluting Labelle's edge and sound.
Customer Rating: Summary: "Back To Now", One word....WOW!!! Comment: Lord help me Jesus, why did it take over 30 years to get these three soul divas back together?? (Perhaps Patti's 100mph non-stop schedule of concerts, cookbooks, wig promotions, and television appearances.) I just finished listening to this superb ten song masterpiece. First off, I'm so thrilled the producers kept true to the original Labelle 70's formula. And that is REAL DRUMS, played on several tracks by the ever talented Lenny Kravitz. Also, dragging back the old Fender Rhodes and tambourines to the studio! Most notables on this CD are the song "Rollout" featuring Wyclef Jean. Its very retro, yet relevant, with the spicy rhythms and rap by Wyclef. "Superlover" is just a refreshingly non-complicated, non-overorchestrated 70's type soul ballad. Patti tones it down with breathy romantic vocals in the beginning, then brings it home as only Patti can do towards the middle to end of the ballad. Then there is "Without You In My Life"! "Without You In My Life" is a gut wrenching ballad, that had the same effect on me when I used to listen to Labelle's "Isn't It A Shame", back in the day. And that is an eventual flow of tears. The arrangement, as well as Patti's emotionally committed interpretation of the ballad, just hits the listener right to the core of their soul! The only critique I can give of this Labelle comeback CD, is I would have liked to have heard some solos by Sarah Dash and Nona Hendryx. I have an old post-Labelle solo CD by Sarah Dash, and she is one fine singer that can "sang"! So I missed hearing girlfriend's solo voice on this comeback CD. But overall...this is a very well produced, well executed, body of work for a comeback album, finally delivered 30 years after their 70's breakup. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Peace, Rob Jackimiec, Chicago/Lincoln Park.
