Editorial Reviews:

In This Moment member, Howorth, describes the concept behind their 2008 album: 'The basic idea behind calling our new album The Dream is that inside dreams anything can happen, all the things that seem impossible or unreachable in the `real world' become a reality in your dreams. We've always been a band that believes in the power of dreams and that believing is creating. We wanted to make a record that you can lay down with, shut off the lights and have a total outerbody experience. We also wanted the record to be like a rollercoaster ride with explosive highs, beautiful lows and everything in between. Maria took her vocals to the next level and explored all the possibilities. Everyone will be surprised by all the melody, passion and strength she brings to the record.'

Summary: Good second effort
Comment: Strictly as a peice of music this is a step up from Their last effort. Rather than being just a collection of songs 'The Dream' seems to be much more cohesive and well thought out. It is a little over-produced in spots and a few of the songs are kinda blah but for the most part it is a worthy second effort.
It is unfortunate that alot of the negative reviews focus on the bands move away from their metalcore sound rather than on the actual music. It is not a totally different sound than their previous efforts as some have said. They simply tried to do something different with their music and all of a sudden everyone starts screaming "sell-out." Hey metal fans, how about actually supporting these bands instead of bailing the second one tries something different. I find it ironic that after listening to metal for the last 20 years that metal fans still complain about other people not having an open mind but when one of their bands tries something different they go crazy.
This is still In this Moment. If you like songs like "Beautiful Tragedy", "the Legacy..", "He said Eternity", or "When the storm subsides" off BT then you'll love this album. If you prefer their harder stuff like "Ashes" or "Next Life" then you might be disappointed but at least give them credit for taking a chance and trying something different. Try and have an open mind and give these guys and other metal bands your support because they need and deserve it.

Summary: So It's Different... Who Cares???
Comment: Yes, many people are attacking this album as it's different from their first, not as heavy and more melodical and soft... who cares!
I am a huge fan of their first and much heavier album and when I got this, I noticed immediately there is nothing heavy about this album. Instead, the music is better, the writing is better, her voice is better, everything is better.
If you're a closed minded imbecile who only likes bands to make albums that sound the same (which seems to be a majority on here) then this one isn't for you, but if you're willing to buy an album from a good band and be open mined to bands actually expressing themselves, it's for you.
How dare bands be critisized for changing their style constantly, all good bands evolve and change, some for the better, some for the worse... this is for the better. WORTH EVERY CENT!

Summary: better than the 1st
Comment: i have to disagree with the faction that dismiss this cd for lack of "screamed vocals"...as an old guy, screamed vocals..for the most part..do nothing for me..and actually ruin music i would have liked had the vocalist actually "sang". And make no mistake..Ms. Brink can sing! Superior songwriting, production, and concept elevates this head and shoulders above 'Tragedy"..although i did love the title track to that cd. A swirling, beautiful, rollercoaster of a cd...not what you'd slam yer head against a wall too..more like ingest certain substances, turn out the lights, and go with the flow...i really like this cd. The few Screams on this actually provide a nice contrast..never thought i'd say that. Give it a chance without any preconceptions....

Summary: Sellout
Comment: There's only one word for this album. Sellout. The only track that features screaming vocals is the Great Divide and it still doesn't feature guitar work like that of the entire Beautiful Tragedy album.

If you like Evanescence or Flyleaf then you'll like this, but to me, it's garbage.

Summary: A Worthy Follow-Up
Comment: Wow! I absolutely loved this followup. It's certainly not the same as Beautiful Tragedy, but it shows that this band is very flexible and willing to expand upon a theme. This album is less about Maria's screams (though are still there. Thank goodness) and more about clean vocals and harmonization. The guitar riffs aren't quite as intense, and her screaming isn't as prominent, but when they are, as another reviewer said, they create more of an impact on the listener. I definitely can't wait to hear more from this band. I like the Alice in Wonderland theme too, but that's just me. :D
