Brian Welch better known by his nickname Head, is one of the founding members of KoRn, a multi-platinum, Grammy award winning metal band and a major influence
in the rise of the heavy metal movement. While with KoRn, Head won two Grammy s and sold over 30 million albums to date. Head is a also a successful author and released a book in July 2007 through Harper Collins. The book, also titled Save Me From Myself , spent many weeks on the New York Times Best Sellers List.
The Debut Album, Save Me From Myself , is a testimony to Head s life, as he battled with drug addiction and leaving KoRn. The album features renown musicians such as
Tony Levin (Peter Gabriel, Alice Cooper, David Bowie) and Josh Freese ( A Perfect Circle, Evanescence, Nine Inch Nails) and, was mixed by Ralph Patlan and Bob Clearmountain. Save Me From Myself is heavy, compelling and inspirational.

Summary: Nice try...
Comment: Brian has made many wonderful accomplishments in his life, but it seems this album is not one of them. I have tried really hard to like it, but alas, I cannot.
I hate to say it, but unlike some of the cool eerie effects he has conveyed in the past, this music is just horrendous. Making a few exceptions (eg Home, Shake perhaps) it is essentially boring, flaccid, and dull. Similarly, the lyrics are pathetically cheap and "cheesy" (as one reviewer put it); I thought Jonathan Davis's lyrics were bad, but this sounds even more like something I wrote at age 14. If that's the intended audience, great, but in my perception, and in comparison to the old days of korn, the positive message is really the only positive thing to say about this.

Summary: Metal with a positive message
Comment: There is so much metal out there that has an extremely negative message. For the most part, I have just been avoiding a lot of band's songs if they had satanic themes or if they have very explicit lyrics, because it conflicts with my beliefs. I've tried finding some christian metal bands in the past, and I have been very,very disappointed - it was like they were rejects from the secular music industry, so they were trying to make a buck by getting into the christian music scene. I pretty much gave up with finding any good christian heavy metal music until now...I've been a long time Korn fan, and knowing how much "Head" had to do with the song writing for them, I was excited to hear this CD. I have to say I was really impressed. The vocals were good,not like JD, but still really good for a guy who was not a lead singer prior to this. A few of the songs were definitely geared to a younger audience, and that's cool, that's how it needs to be. I wish there was more quality christian metal music like this out there, I would be the first in line to get it. I hope this is the first release of many for "Head", he is a truly talented and proven songwriter, that knows the metal scene and what people want to hear. He's sending a positive message accompanied with kick butt music - works for me!

Summary: The Emperor Wore No Clothes...
Comment: I understand that since Head has found God we all want to love his book and his album as they are a testament to Gods grace, Heads new path, etc...
But there is one problem. They aren't good. His book sounds like it was written by a confused 5th grader. He contradicts himself constantly (I suppose in that respect it is Bible-esque) and his album is no better. It rambles along, struggling to figure out if it's being driven by a meth-head or a Bible-thumper. It certainly doesn't sound better than Korn, or even as good as Korn. Not by a long shot. To put it bluntly, it sucks, and the only reason anyone even pretends to like it is because it has the "Good God Badge" stuck all over it. Oh, and as for the lyrics? Yikes. Best not read those if you're looking to continue suffering under the delusion that this is a good album.

Comment: This is a very well rounded CD. I now understand why KORN's music doesn't seem to have the edge that it used to, it left when Head left the band. Good album, buy it!

Comment: I have had Brian Welch's autobiography since it came out in 2007 and I was very eager to hear these new songs he talked about in his book. Whether you chose to love him for making a complete turn around and coming to know Christ as his Savior or if you hate him for stepping away from one of the most popular nu metal bands in the world named KoRn, there will be a lot to like for everyone who loves heavy metal. These new songs "L.O.V.E.", "Flush", "Loyalty" and "Washed By Blood" are all some of the best songs I have heard as both a Christian and a listener of heavy metal. Definately pick up a copy if you love banging your head to very loud hard rock music.
