Customer Rating: Summary: stop and think,,,, Comment: These shoes are well constructed, but there is one thing that I hadn't quite realized. It takes a major effort with stiff buckles to put them on and take them off.
If you like to kick sandals on and off, these are not the sandals for you.
I have got them adjusted very loose now, and I can sort of slip them on and off, but they are loose walking in. Makes you appreciate velcro....
Customer Rating: Summary: Sturdy but not super confortable Comment: At $49.95 they are great value for money. They are sturdy and good looking.
The sole is not the softest. Don't expect much of a cushion, but they will not break before at least 10 years!
Customer Rating: Summary: Hmm.... Well.... Comment: These sandals look nice in a clunky sort of way. (I guess that comes with being Unisex.) At first, they seemed very stiff and felt like boxes on my feet. I was going to return them, but re-read the customer reviews and took to heart the one that said to give them a few days. The leather does soften with wear. They are now comfortable enough and fit very securely. I normally wear a medium (B) width and got the narrow width instead because Birkenstocks supposedly run wider than U.S. mediums. The narrows seem amply wide. Here is a problem I experienced: The removable insole wraps up the sides of your foot about 3/16 inch. The sole wraps up around the sides and very slightly (maybe 1/8 inch) over the top edge of the insole, to hold it in place. That edge of the sole was pressing on the outside of my foot at the base joint of my little toe and tended to cause some discomfort after a while. Adding another pair of insoles under the existing ones fixed the problem. The only downside now is having to fasten and unfasten at least the middle buckle to put them on and off.
Customer Rating: Summary: great shoes Comment: These sandals are great after they get broken in. Give yourself a little time before you decide that you don't like them.
Customer Rating: Summary: You say, "Birkenstock," I say "Tatami" Comment: I have feet that are very difficult to fit; and, because of lower back pain, I need footware that will alleviate the pain, not exacerbate it. I have a tough enough time finding shoes that fit; good, supportive sandals are nearly impossible. But these Tatami Nebraska sandals (by Birkenstock) fit the bill -- I mean feet. I particularly like the backstrap (without it, sandals just don't seem to stay on my feet (and I hate that annoying "flip-flop" sound, anyway). I wear these mostly indoors, so I like the trademark Birkenstock tread on the soles. It's quite smooth with subtle grooves, so it's not detrimental to carpets (unlike the agressive waffle and knobby paterns of most running/athletic shoes). These sandals are very similar to the Birkenstock Milano model, which I have owned in the past. However, these are far more comfortable (more ergonomic); they appear to be better constructed (more durable); and, tah-dah, they're about half the price! So, you can say "Birkenstock," but I'll say, "Tatami" -- Nebraska, that is.
