Customer Rating: Summary: Boring Comment: I found this video a bit boring. It's better to buy a book with pictures in it, it felt like the same thing. I bought it bc the reviews were so high, but very disappointed. Read a book!
Customer Rating: Summary: Carthusian Chants-A Different Kind of Gregorian chant Comment: The sung offices and readings of the monks prayer services throughout the day and night are featured. Their chant is much less "flashy" and unadorned than that of Trappists or Benedictine monks. It fits with the austerity and solitude of Carthusian life. The austere chants are haunting.
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent....just what I wanted. Comment: I bought the DVD when it came out and was glad to be able to get the "soundtrack". Just what I wanted.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not Great Singing. A Marketing Rip-off Comment: While I suppose this is meant to take a listener back into the movie, which I very much appreciate, and I bought it from Amazon, I did not realize what I was buying when I bought this CD. Having bought it, I feel ripped off: this, to my mind, is a ploy to extend revenues. For Gregorian Chant one can buy CDs of the monastic choirs of Solesmes and Fontgaumbult, to name only two sources of Gregorian Chant that have great sound quality and choirs. This "sound track" of the movie, complete with stray, unidentifiable noises, displays a mediocre choir and very poor sound quality. If you must have it, buy it used. I have one for sale.
Customer Rating: Summary: Peacful Contemplation Comment: Ok, see the movie reviews for more details but if you don't have the time for 3 hours of blessed quiet, try this soundtrack which contains most of the spoken/chanted prayer portions from the movie. You can play it in the car on the way to work or whenever you need a bit of stress relief and know that these faith filled monks are praying for all of us around the world.
