Customer Rating: Summary: I like it Comment: This is a nice TV. I installed it myself in no time on a TV stand with limited know how. I went on-line to get different opinions on the TV settings that provide the best sound and picture. My wife originally thought is was going to be too big for us, but now she thinks it's beautiful. The TV was great to watch the olympics on. Movies come in very nice and we don't even have a blueray. We're very happy with our fist lcd flat panel.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great TV at a Great Value! Comment: I have had this TV since June. I purchased it and received a FREE TIVO unit as part of a Amazon promotion. After months of reserach and store visitng and standing in front of these things (and countless "Im just browsing" encounters with salesmen, I finally picked this one over the Panasonic 50" PZ800u (I couldnt get over the price for a 52" screen compared to a 50", lighter set for wall mounting and what I felt were identical contrast ratios and color saturation over supposedly smoother motion)
I also picked the 52a50 over the newer model samsung ln52a650 ( I sacrificed some contrast ratio and color saturation here but I couldnt get over the screen glare I was seeing in even the darkest store setups and I knew it would bug me at home as well because Id be looking for it). I should also say that I did not consider the television sound in the purchase (Panasonic 800 and 850 series are THS certified) as I have my set hooked up to my home theatre system and haven't used the TV sound at all. All in all a great purchase From AMAZON with no regrets.
Having been to various stores to look at these things,(I went to all the big stores Sears,ABT, best buy, circuit city, Fry's, etc.)and there is no question that you wont get the kind of pricing and return policy on a brand new unopened box TV "in-store" that you will find on Amazon.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great quality and value Comment: Love it. It's one of my best purchases this year. We moved from an older Sony WEGA and were deciding between this and the 46 inch, and between this and the Series 6 (120 hz).
We chose this over the Series 6 as we didn't feel the added functionality (for us mostly the 120 hz - reduced blur) justified the price premium (around 500$)
We chose the 52 over the 46 as it's more impressive (obviously) and our room is large enough to accommodate the 52, and the price difference was not that high (200)
Pros:
- Easy to setup and connect with my Digital IO Cable box, Home theater, WII, VCR (yes, still have one)
- Great quality. Colors are vivid, darks are fine. Go to circuit city and compare with some of the other brands.
- Great price
- Lots of great reviews
Cons (and workarounds):
- Sound is not perfect, as everyone notes.
I have a home theater, so this isn't a big issue. Also, as mentioned in other reviews, you can improve the sound by changing sound settings (AVS forums)
- Remote is not universal.
The remote only controls the TV. Not ideal, but no biggie. Just went out and bought a cheap universal remote to control all of my devices. Don't have all the TV functions on the universal remote, but think there are some fancy ones that may.
- PIP is limited(compared with my older Sony)
I wanted to have each screen showing a different channel (we have Digital IO, not standard cable), but that's not possible (at least I don't know how). I was able to set it up so the kids can watch TV on the left screen, while my wife uses WII Fit on the right.
Suggestions:
- Buy HDMI cables online versus at a local store
- If you want PIP to show WII, one way is to connect the WII to a VCR (DVD) route the RF cable from the VCR to the back of the TV. You can use one of those RF adapters instead. (The quality may not be as good as the video)
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent picture... a couple of negatives Comment: This TV gives an excellent picture. Two things I do not like about this TV: 1) Sound is awful, even with the tweaks suggested. 2) Very reflective. That was the most disappointing and really the only reason I was swayed from Plasma as I'm always hearing how LCD doesn't reflect, but this one does. I've got a Philips LCD in the bedroom that does not reflect. One other thing I don't like about this TV is they went with the piano black finish which adds to the reflectiveness of it. Overall I'm happy with the TV, but my next purchase will be a plasma.
Customer Rating: Summary: My New Samsung Comment: I can not be more pleased with my new Samsung TV. From the safe shipping process, too the tv's performance. It's picture is fantastic. It has been wonderful to watch the Yankees in HD on this 52" screen. The colors are unbelieveable! I am greatful to save so much through Amazon - truly!
