The Cavalera Conspiracy is about a sense of being unleashed, says vocalist/guitarist Max Cavalera. You bottle a monster for 10 years and then let it out. It s explosive, and we waited a long time for this beast to be set free.
It s true. The wait is over. And the time is now. Many said it would never happen, that Max and Iggor Cavalera, the Brazilian brothers and visionaries that formed the groundbreaking metal band Sepultura in 1983 would reunite to make electrifying music together again. Despite having spent 12 years apart, the inescapable fact remains: Max and Iggor share blood and are musical soulmates. Their time away from each other fostered musical growth leading to the newly inspired metallic magic. Hence, the Cavalera Conspiracy was born. While the Cavalera Conspiracy and their Roadrunner Records debut Inflikted may seem like the closest we ll get to a Sepultura reunion, make no mistake. The Cavalera Conspiracy is its own maniacal, untamable beast with its own set of rules.

Comment: Thrashing, battering and flogging their way into your cd player is Cavalera Conspiracy's new cd "Inflikted". For the dilettantes out there, Cavalera Conspiracy (CC) is a groove/thrash metal band with a United Nations flare as the band features members from Brazil, France, and the United States. Veteran thrashers may be especially excited that the band is a reunion of the Cavalera brothers after a12 year hiatus and this marks the first time they have made music or shared a stage together since the infamous Sepultura break up twelve years ago.
Featuring Max Cavalera (Soulfly, ex-Sepultura) on vocals and rhythm guitar, Iggor Cavalera (ex-Sepultura) on drums, Soulfly guitarist Marc Rizzo and Joe Duplantier (Gojira) on bass "Inflikted" is not only true to thrash with its speed riffing , in your face, down your throat aggression, and fast, percussive and low-register guitar riffs, coupled with very impressive shredding-style lead work from Rizzo, it manages to lend a innovative sound and feel that some thrash bands rarely reach, unfortunately staying in the predictable mire- this is not so with CC.
"Inflikted" benefits not only from the perfect temperature melting pot of the Cavalera brothers with Rizzo and Duplantier but the engineering and co production of Logan Mader. The result is a tight, unyielding 11 track cd, with notables such as "Black Ark", `Hex" and "Nevertrust" that showcase the band in total but Max's unforgettable vocal style.
Touring worldwide and with Judas Priest in September of this year; if Cavalera Conspiracy is as good on stage as they are on "Inflikted" then for those about to thrash, Cavalera Conspiracy salutes you.

Comment: Seriously, Max needs to cut this out... Soulfly was bad enough, but this has hit new lows. It's a shame Igor got brought into this...His drumming doesn't seem to be what it used to. Time to hang it up boys...

Summary: Max and Iggor are back, and they mean business.
Comment: After 12 long years, brothers Max and Iggor Cavalera has finally reunited, this time with their brand spanking new band simply known as Cavalera Conspiracy. Their debut album "Inflikted" is the first album that Max and Iggor have worked on together since Sepultura's 1996 effort "Roots". I have anticipated this cd for some time, and when I got it and listened to it, I was very impressed with it, and it has become one of my favorite metal cds of 2008 as well. It definately proves that Max and Iggor play straight from their hearts which of course made them both famous in Sepultura. This album reminds me of a mix of Arise-era Sepultura and later-Soulfly. Joining this four-man lineup with the Cavalera brothers are lead guitarist Marc Rizzo (who played with Max in Soulfy) and bassist Joe Duplantier (Gojira), and they definately have proved that they are great, solid musicians in their own rights. Marc's leads and solos are sharp, ripping, and very impressive, and Joe does a splendid, solid job with the bass and keeping up with the guitars. Iggor's drumming on here just slaughters, and it's also varied as well, ranging from wicked fast, pummeling thrash beats, groovy mid tempo parts, and even some cool tribal sounding beats as well. I really like the sound of his drums on here, it's really heavy sounding. Last but not least, Max delivers an excellent vocal performance. His vocals are harsh, angry, vicious, and commanding, and he also provides great rhythm guitar playing as well. Every song on here is just great, but here's a look at some of my favorites. The title track gets the album opened up in a no nonsense way with insane punchy, thrashing riffs, hefty, groovy drums, a catchy fist pumping, headbanging chorus, and a pair of fast shredding solos and some thrashy drum parts to boot. Track two and my personal favorite "Sanctuary" starts with somewhat of a cool action/sci-fi movie like sound effect, and then goes into a mosh pit assault of fast, slamming drumwork, menacing riffs, aggressive vocals and an very aggressive chorus, and there's another nice wailing guitar solo around 1:36. Track three "Terrorize" starts off with a cool tribal like drum beat, and goes into an addicting groove metal beat with catchy, groovy, head bobbing riffs and catchy lyrics, and around the 1:28 mark the song goes into an assault of wild, slamming, thrashing drum parts along with some wicked machine gun riffs and fiery leads as well. The fourth track "Black Ark" is another song that also starts off with a cool tribal drum beat and it also ends with a tribal drum beat, and there's also some more great groove riffs and great soloing by Marc as well. Track five and another favorite "Ultra-Violent" (which features Rex Brown of Pantera and Down on bass) is highlighted by slow, heavy, sludgy, headbanging riffage, pummeling double bass kick patterns, as wells as some more faster, thrashing drums parts, faster riffing, and more shredding solos to boot. "Hex" and "Nevertrust" are both fast, savage, angry, aggressive, heart pounding thrashers, and "Must Kill" is a monster of a closer that features catchy pounding drums and nice double bass kick patterns, awesome, monster shredding riffs, and a another great winding melodic solo from Marc as well as a great chorus.

Overall, I definately recommend this album, if you enjoy early Sepultura and of course Soulfly's last album "Dark Ages" for that matter as well. It's definately worth checking out. And of course any fan of Max and Iggor Cavalera will truly enjoy this album like I did. Pick this album now and get INFLIKTED!!

Comment: If your a fan of the Cavalera Boys from Sepultura or SoulFly; do yourself a favor and pick this up. Its packed full of heaters, and is a great listen from start to finish. Great lyrics, great riffs and solos! Break your necks!

Summary: In Between Sepultura, Soulfly and Nailbomb.
Comment: It is a fast album. It is definitely metal or rather metal core with fast hardcore influence. Riffs yes, but not a lot of groovy stuff. Here and there are surprises (a guitar melody comes in the middle of a song and you go like hey, this is strange) in a good way. It is raw, not very will thought as if they are in a hurry (and yes they were in a hurry by the way to release the album). The lyrics are classic Max; shut the **ck up, jump the sh** off and stuff like that... Not innovative, but have energy. Drumming; well it is Igor at its best but not shining as it was in Dante album (as in that performance the music is relatively slow, giving more space to drumming and filling). As a package, the feeling is more Soulfly than Sepultura or Nailbomb; but without the feel of the guest musicians like it was in Primitive... Do not expect any Gojiralike influence, no stops and breaks. Not a great leap forward in terms of musicianship, but still it fulfills the curiosity of fans.
At the end, a fan may ask would the world be the same without this album; the answer is a definite yes!
