Summary: The best speakerphone I've ever used
Comment: MOTOROKR T505 Bluetooth Car Kit

I read a lot of reviews of this speakerphone before purchasing it from Amazon. The majority of the reviews I read both on Amazon and in other places were very positive. After having this gem in my car for more than a month, I can honestly say this is the finest speakerphone I've ever used. The sound is clear in both directions. The internal speaker is plenty loud, and the microphone picks me up clearly and callers have no trouble hearing me even with the windows down on the Highway! The ability to FM broadcast the speaker to the car radio makes it easy to hear even soft voices on the other end. A friend of mine bought one of these after I called him with it because he was blown away by the call clarity. When he got his, he called me at my office (e.g. I was on a land line) and I had to ask him twice to verify that he was really talking to me on the T505! It's THAT good. I used to use a Plantronics Discovery 655 (which is an awesome BT headset), but several test calls indicated that the T505 was actually clearer on the receiver's end than the 655! I rarely use a headset now, as this is simply much more convenient for use in the car. Battery life is AMAZING. When I got it, it was partially charged (most likely 60-80%), and I was able to use it for nearly 3 weeks before it started announcing "Low Battery" periodically in the speaker. Full recharge time is fairly slow (rated 5 hours, took about 2.5-3.0 for me), but with battery life like that, it doesn't matter. Gut feel is that I got at least 15-20 hours of intermittently-used talk time out of that initial charge.

Things not tested: I have a Motorola KRZR, which apparently does not support bluetooth audio streaming (or Verizon disabled it, or perhaps I just don't know how to enable it...in all honesty I didn't buy the phone to listen to music anyway).

Possible "cons": Some folks have complained that the speakerphone is "half-duplex" (e.g. you can either talk or listen but not both simultaneously). This is the way the majority of small speakerphones work, this is due to the "feedback" problem of having the mic near the speaker. It works the way most Panasonic speakerphones for home/office work, that is the "louder" of the two sides wins, and the other side cuts out. So it is usually possible to interrupt a conversation long enough to get the other person to pause. In practice, this is not really even noticeable as the device can switch from send to receive very quickly.

All in all, I'd have a hard time finding anything to dislike about it. It is a bit of a juggling-act to answer a call, then re-tune the radio to the pre-set station it's programmed to, then press the FM button on the back of the device. But I don't think this could be made any easier without some integration between the device and the car stereo, which isn't practical with most factory car stereos. Most times, unless I'm initiating the call, I just turn off the radio and use the built in speaker, which is plenty loud enough. One other slight annoyance is that it has no visual battery gauge. You must plug it into the charger and then view the main LED on the front: Red=low, Yellow=med, Green=full. While this is easy enough to do, it would be far easier if I could push a button combination like I can do for any other function and get a reading.

All things considered, I have no trouble rating it a five out of five. While there are several great BT headsets out there, if you frequently only use them in the car, you might consider using the T505 instead since you don't have to fumble with taking the headset in/out of your ear. If any Motorola engineers read this, consider adding a key combination to check the battery level w/o having to plug the device into a charger first.

Comment: MOTOROKR T505 Bluetooth Car KitThis visor-mounted bluetooth device works as advertised, but I was dissapointed because it stated that as well as handsfree phoning you could transmit MP3 devices through the FM radio frequencey. I have a new 3G iPhone which paired easily, but the iPod on the phone was not compatible. I called the customer service number and they said it was not compatible with any of the iPods. So it does work with the telephone, but not for the music. The sound quality seems to be fine to me and the people I am speaking with.

Comment: Great value for the money. Easily bonded with my phone and works very well with my vehicles FM stations. Callers can hear my voice even at freeway speeds. Best part of all you don't have to feel like girl wearing an earring!

Summary: Surprisingly terrific!
Comment: Great and reliable little product. Took about 4 seconds to get it up and running. The speaker is loud and clear and, if desired, you can conduct your conversations through your car stereo speakers (although I don't feel the need - the speaker on the unit itself really does the job quite nicely.) A fantastic alternative to the (annoying) in-ear Bluetooth!

Technology is groovy :~)
