Summary: New is good, but not great.
Comment: I got the new version because I have a client that wants me to take over their books and she had a newer version than I did. New is always good, but it's not great. I find that there are still things that I can't do that have not been fixed since I got my first version in 2004. My main issue is that I can not issue a Credit Memo to a client without assigning it to a specific job. So, when someone does something for me, I can't apply it as a credit to all their jobs. I have to break it up and apply it individually. There is a lot of features that I don't need and, yet, they continue to offer them, just in case. Also, the home page, which seems kind of useless, won't go away. Maybe I just haven't figured it out yet. But, all in all, I can't live without it, so I'm stuck upgrading regardless of whether or not there have been any improvements...

Summary: Good Program but Unneccessary Update
Comment: I am a long time user of Quick Books. I am happy with the product the way it was. I had my merchant account through Quick Books and when they decided that I needed to upgrade they no longer supported my merchant account through my older version. By not honoring their commitment, I could no longer accept credit cards but continued to be charged for the merchant service for several months. Cost me real money, lost business and customer goodwill. I was forced to purchase this update (at full rate) in order to reestablish my credit card service. Now I have to pay a fee to sign up for my merchant account. (I was probably charged a fee to close my merchant account a couple of months ago). The program is good, but nothing new that was worth $200. Not a good way to do business Intuit. I had been a longtime Turbo Tax customer but you lost me to Taxcut there as well because when I tried to go back to previous years' taxes to amend I discovered your program writes over each tax year making the older ones unretrievable. Your business practices are not customer friendly. I feel that your sunset enngineering is extortion. If you are going to force upgrades your longtime clients deserve a little break or at least innovate. New skins and some new fonts do not equal a new program.

Summary: Quick Books Review
Comment: I am not computer savvy, but my husband started his own business, and we were told that Quick Books was an excellent program. A friend of ours helped me set up the program, and it is great. Just follow the arrows on invoicing, to accepting payments, to making deposits. It is easy to understand and looks very professional in the printouts. There are still lots of things to learn, but I think I can do it. It has been a GREAT help for a a small business.

Summary: HORRIBLE SET-UP
Comment: Just be aware that part of the installation REQUIRES you to phone Inituit (my wait time was 15 minutes). You must then spell out your address, give your phone number, email address.
Then for the next 10 minutes the other person will try to sell you other products (in order to receive the necessary validation code to run the software, they MUST go through their entire pitch).
Finally they will give you a validation code.
Next time I'll buy Peachtree instead.

Summary: QuickBooks - Bad Communication Glitches
Comment: A long time Quicken user, I purchased QuickBooks Pro 2008 from Amazon in January and tried to sync business accounts at US Bank. I continued to receive error messages. After hours on the phone with Intuit, they told me they were working on the issue and should have a fix in a few months. I waited. Meanwhile, my 30-day free tech help expired. A few months later, Intuit released a patch that was supposed to bridge the communication problem. It didn't work. When I called for support, they wanted to charge me $70/hr just to talk to me. I'd had the software for four months now, and I still couldn't use it - and they wanted to charge me more money. On the Intuit website, I saw that a fix would be available in July. So here it is in July, and Intuit still hasn't fixed the communication problem. I have ditched the QuickBooks and purchased a "Home Business" add-on for my Quicken ($39), and it works like a dream.
I'm fairly computer-savvy, but Quickbooks gave me such a headache that I would absolutely not recommend it for your business.
