The surface area is 6 inches wide and the top of the beam is a comfortable and safe 4 inches above the ground. The beam has a wood core with feet that are 10 inches wide for added stability. The bottom of the feet have felt pads to protect the flooring beneath. All seams are covered giving it a high quality finished look.
