For an expensive bird feeder, this one did not live up to its claims. Squirrels find it easy to get at. Also, the bottom stays wet and the seed sticks together and rots making it impossible for the birds to get at the seed from the lower stations. It is necessary to take it apart all the time to clean up the clogged and moldy mess. I am very disappointed.

Comment: Not sure where others use this feeder, but for a 2nd floor deck, this and the triple sized one are wonderful. Also, we live in a fully wooded area highly populated by squirrels and these drive them NUTS. They cannot figure out how to get at these. And believe me, the branches are close enough for them to jump onto the decks. We've had no issues filling the feeder or getting them to lock in place either. These are great and totally worth the investment.

Summary: How to "squirrel proof" your squirrel proof birdfeeder
Comment: I got one of these at the local W store for less than 20 bucks. For that price, and with the following fix it does a good job of decreasing the amount of seed eaten by the rodent members of our backyard.
I simply used some Gorilla tape (like duct tape only stronger) to tape over the bottom holes. This prevented the squirrels from shaking feeder and getting seeds to drop into the bottom tray (they can get a few, but not worth the effort). However, that makes it so that the bottom third of the feeder does not dispense food. The birds will stick their heads into the middle holes and get some of the food out, however.
If you do not want to spend a lot on a really squirrel proof feeder this will cut down a lot on the seed swiped.

It's not squirrel proof.
The squirrels love it and are on it all the time, so that the birds can't get on. The top screw lid is weak and easily pops off so squirrels get down in from top too. They are cute however hanging upside down and pulling the expensive black oil SF seeds out of the bird feeder holes while the birds sit in adjacent trees watching.
I thought there were laws against false advertizing?

Comment: I bought this feeder from wally-world for ~$20 specifically seeking a squirrel-proof solution.
This item's name seems to claim that it's squirrel-proof.
I don't think our squirrels are card-carrying Mensa members, but they can certainly figure out how to hang on the outside of this mis-labeled product and shake seed into the bottom trough 'til it fills up enough that they can reach it. We don't feed many birds with this, but we pump a lot of seed into these rodents.
If I wanted a squirrel-feeder, I wouldn't have spent $$ on a Squirrel Proof Bird Feeder. Gets a Zero on a scale of 1-5.
