Customer Rating: Summary: Coleman Lantern Comment: Coleman 2-Mantle Lantern - GreenI would reconmend this to any one who needs a great lantern that when camping, fishing,or just need a light around for outside. Both my husband and I have tipped over this light many times and has even been dropped a few times and still don't have to replace the mantles like you do on others that even just get tipped over. Great Price and all propane tanks at any store will work.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great lantern. Comment: This is an all-around great lantern for camping. It's really bright when it's turned up, but in most cases you won't need that much, so you can turn it down and expect quite a bit more time out of it. But it is nice to have the extra brightness when you need it -- I haven't seen an electric one that can even come close.
Yeah, the base can come off pretty easily, but I don't mind it too much. I only use the base when it's sitting on something anyway, right? If I'm carrying it around I just leave the base behind. Often times I will hang the lantern up high to increase its lighting distance, and I don't need the base in those cases either.
Customer Rating: Summary: Coleman 2-Mantle Propane Lantern. (Not 'Instant Start' ) Comment: Great lantern. Lightweight, well designed (except that the 'legs' tend to fall off the tank when you carry it. One other disappointment. I bought Coleman Lantern Lighters (Prod. # 503A) to install in each unit, only to find that this is one of the few Coleman lanterns that will not accomodate the lighter. That's a shame, as the lighter is a great convenience. Otherwise, I was pleased, and the recipients (they were Christmas gifts for teenage nephews) are very happy.
Customer Rating: Summary: Nice, but has some quirks Comment: I keep this lantern handy for power outages. I plan to take it camping next time I go. I recommend keeping the Styrofoam case that protects the glass globe. It's much easier to dismantle and store the unit without fear of breaking the globe.
This two-mantle lantern throws out lots of light. It starts easily with a match.
I don't like the way the propane tank sits in the base. To move the lantern from one room to the next you must support the plastic base, otherwise it falls off.
Very important! Do not over-tighten the top ventilator nut. The glass globe will crack because it has no room to expand when it heats up. I cracked two globes before contacting Coleman, who showed me the error of my ways.
Despite the problems, this is a great lantern, and it's much easier to use than Coleman's pump version that uses liquid fuel.
