Summary: Piece of trash!!
Comment: Well, I agree with other reviewers regarding the VERY
sensitive, I would have to say, OVERLY sensitive and
very soft ALUMINUM threads used on these lanterns.
The very first time I used my lantern, I attached it
with NO difficulty at all to a Propane Tree (NOT the
Over-Priced Coleman Version) After removing it from the
tree, I then attempted to attach to a bottle of Coleman
Propane Fuel. Now, I have this lantern upside down so
that I can see the threads both of the bottle of propane
as well as those of the lantern itself. I spentno less
than ten minutes attempting to attach the bottle to the
lamp to no avail. I did, however, succeed in chewing the
threads of the lantern into oblivion. It is now totally
useless. If I could have given "0" stars , that I would
have done.... I do not believe that it is the Aluminum
Threads alone as much as I believe it is the Grade of
Aluminum being used today vs. that which was being used
twenty + years ago. You see, there are many grades such
as T-4, T-5, T-6, and "O" condition which has to do with
their malleability....and obviously, with each grade their
is a different price....thus we have the final production
cost in the end....and if you can save a nickel on the
overall costs in the end and you are producing a million
plus lanterns world wide (at least this amount) THAT can
add up to a significant savings for the company, the heck
with the end user....oh well, I should have known what to expect
when I noticed that they had sold out and move most of their
operations to China along with just about every other American Manufacturer.....what is going on in this Country of ours is a
sad day for America as a whole. Seems to me that the powers that
be are seeking "parity" with all the "third world" nations of the
world and here in California we are well on our way....we now have
no less than an average of two families per house in what used to
be termed as "single family" residences. BUT, I guess that is O.K.
as long as I can get more stuff for myself at a cheaper price.

Summary: review of Coleman Lantern
Comment: It is a good, well-engineered product, like most Coleman products. My guess is it will not withstand alot of use however. I wish it were made of brass or aluminum machined castings rather than as much plastic as it has built into it. The stand (bottom) probably won't hold up for long. The case is really nice and protects the lantern in transit very well.

Summary: Love it!!!
Comment: Just back from my son's first cub scout camp out and this lantern was flawless. I highly recommend it and would love to own a second. Ran on high for 8 hours and still had some left when we shut it down. I took it to the pack leaders dinner on Saturday night and hung it from their pavillion beam and it lit the whole surrounding area as the pack leader read stories to the scouts into the late evening hours. I cannot imagine any complaints about this product. Will order as second soon!

Summary: Great!
Comment: Pros: Easy to light with long match, mantles stay functional for a good while, can be BRIIIIIGHT, or nice & dim, if you just need a small light, but don't want to burn a lot of propane.

We ran our lantern for probably 9 hours over two nights, using varied brightnesses (dim for most of the time, to BRIGHT for about an hour and a half), and I still have about half a can of propane.

With the carrying case, it is a heck of a deal.

Summary: Great light, but I wish I got the auto ignition.
Comment: Picked this one up after that last camping trip where I found I had plenty of propane but all my lanterns run on batteries that were all dead. Decided that this was what I need to solve that problem, but the store didn't have the auto ignite model in stock. Plenty bright and easy to use, but I worry that I might break a mantle lighting with matches. The only reason for the four stars is because in my opinion you should opt for the same lantern with auto ignite. Don't get me wrong, this is still a great lamp.
