Editorial Reviews:

Between somewhere and nowhere in the untamed West is the small town of Refuge. There, neither the sheriff nor his deputy carry a sidearm. There's no jail either, because shooting, carousing and bad blood are not in the town's character. What peaceful folks live there? Wild Bill Hickok. Doc Holliday. Jesse James. Billy the Kid. All long dead. All mysteriously given a chance to undo their violent pasts in Purgatory. All put to a stern test when Blackjack and his ornery gang ride into town.

Summary: more than a western
Comment: purgatory is somewhat of a surprise. i am a fan of westerns, but you don't have to like cowboy pictures to appreciate this excellent made for t.v. movie. like most good westerns, purgatory is about far more than gun fights in the wild west. it is a love story, a tale of good vs evil, and a lesson on the thin line that often separates right from wrong. all of the actors give first rate performances that go above and beyond what is usually seen in movies that are produced for television. if you are looking for something original that the whole family can enjoy purgatory is a wonderful choice.

Comment: good movie with an interesting take on the American western-almost turning the concept of the western on its head. Of course there is the big gunfight at the end

Comment: To bad these kinds of movies are not made anymore. Every actor in this played a great part. Especially liked the action and the fact the bad guy does really get it in the end. Eric Roberts and Sam Shepard must have had a blast making this movie. If you like westerns, this has a real twist to it. I would recommend this to anyone, and any age, the use of sex and slurs are not present in this. I rate this AAAAA+++++
