Gina Lollobrigida is enlisted by Sean Connery to serve as nurse for his elderly uncle, who refuses to cut Connery in on a hefty inheritance. Connery hopes Lollobrigida will marry the old man, then cut him in on the will. Things get complicated when the uncle dies on his yacht and Lollobrigida becomes a murder suspect. Customer Rating: Summary: Classy early Connery film Comment: WOMAN OF STRAW is no doubt seen with curiosity by Sean Connery's fans, but the real interest here lies in Ralph Richardson and Gina Lollobrigida. It is a joy to see them together. Such an unlikely pair, and how poignant and beautiful they are because of it. Both actors are in excellent shape; Lollobrigida as beautiful as ever. A good film, well directed, with great production values. Why not digitally transfer to DVD, with a few extras? Customer Rating: Summary: A well made thriller! The first third of the picture is a hidden homage to Hamlet. All the analogies are there. This brilliant introduction will become the big frame for a meticulous, cold and analytical plan where the untiring greed, hate in the search of a dark justice will allow to build an intelligent thriller of high caliber tension.
Ralph Richardson is superb in his role as well as a young Sean Connery and the Italian Goddess Gina Lollobrigida.
A must-see and acquire.

The movie based on a French novel "Woman of Straw" by Catherine Arley (1957). The nephew of a miliardario Lord Anthony Richmond,played by Sean Connery,a money-hungry young man persuades the young nurse of the old one ,Maria(Gina Lollobrigida) to marry his oncle in order to put his hands on the fortune. The plan succeeds, but the Lord comes assassinated little after during one cruise.The suspect number one is the young wife that comes imprisoned and condemned. The assassin, naturally, is an other and will be unmasked.
