John Denver has sold over 60 million albums worldwide making him one of the best selling artists of all time. This year marks the 35th anniversary of Denver's first RCA album Rhymes And Reasons and is the 30th anniversary of his recording "Annie's Song." In his amazing career, Denver has sold over 60 million records worldwide and is one of the best selling artists in history with 21 Gold, 14 Platinum and seven Multi- Platinum certified albums. His numerous awards and honors include: the Grammy Hall of Fame Award (1997), induction into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame (1996), the People's Choice Award (1977), the Albert Schweitzer Music Award (1993), multiple American Music and Country Music Association Awards (including Entertainer of the Year, Album of the Year and Song of the Year), and the Academy of Country Music Award. Universally loved and successful, he wrote and recorded some of the most recognizable and covered songs of our time. Customer Rating: Summary: Loved it! Comment: We received our CD right before we left on a road trip. John Denver's love of nature was the perfect background for the beautiful scenery we were seeing each day. We sang right along and enjoyed every minute of the CD.
Customer Rating: Summary: John Denver Greatest Hits Comment: Sad to listen to this given John's tragic death knowing how much more he could have written and we could have enjoyed!
Customer Rating: Summary: One of the good guys Comment: I love John Denver. I love his music. I love everything he stood for - his love of nature and animals and good, old-fashioned values. In this day and age with way too much focus on pop culture and superficial, shallow and soulless "artists", listening to John Denver's music is like sitting by a warm fireplace on a cold winter's night. And it makes you long for a more quiet, calm and simple time.
My Sweet Lady is one of the most beautiful folk ballads of the 70's. I hope John Denver's music will live forever. You did well, John!
Customer Rating: Summary: Grating, the Al Gore of his time Comment: Yes, there's something tinny about John Denver singing about nature. He comes off like Al Gore lecturing on global warming while living high on the hog in an energy-wasting mansion. I wonder how Denver got to his concerts around the globe? In a carved-out redwood? How did those thousands of fans make it to the arena? By windsurfing? How was the energy produced to amplify his guitar? How was the wealth created for his fans to have disposable income for concerts? Don't RCA's record factories produce waste? It's fine to carp about the smog in Los Angeles. But that smog was created by the industrial society that allowed Denver to have his career. Worshipping nature while being serviced by dirty civilization down below is, well, Al Gore-like. Was a Denver a knowing hypocrite? Or just another naive folkie-hippie? Just once, it would have been nice for Denver to mock his sincerity. Just once, blurt out how much you hate whales and dandelions--and up with nuclear reactors! Now that would have been as refreshing as the cool, clean waters of the Rocky Mountains.
Customer Rating: Summary: Feel good music Comment: I was inspired to buy this CD because of my brother. He would call me on the phone just excited to be alive after hearing John's music. Mind you, he is a successful business guy who grew up listening to the Stones, Black Sabbath and good old Rock n Roll, but for some reason the sounds of John Denver called and he answered. Now, so have I. After hearing " I'm Leavin On a Jet Plane..don't know when I'll be back again" I was sucked in and I felt my spirits lift.
John Denver's soft and light lyrics continue to dance in our hearts and lift our moods. This CD has all great hits that we remember. Sunshine on my shoulders (makes me happy), Annies song, Calypso, Fly away...you won't go wrong with this collection of John Denver's greats. I understand his music more now, than I ever have before. He was good to his core, and his music reflects who he was. A must own for a collection of any genre'.
