The Wilkin family have been farming for three hundred years on their 1,200 acre property in Tiptree, Essex. In 1885 A.C. Wilkin began producing jams and preserves setting high standards for himself and his staff. Four generations later Peter Wilkin continues his great grandfather¿s dream to ensure that only the best quality fruits are chosen to produce a variety of delicious products. Fruits are picked, cooked with pure sugar syrup until set and packed within hours to capture the perfect taste. Employees at Wilkin and Sons take pride in being part of an independently owned family business that continues to create the highest quality jams and preserves which are enjoyed by many all over the world today. Shown here is Tiptree's Little Scarlet strawberry jam, a unique product which is very difficult to make. The tiny little "Fraises de Bois" strawberries are incredibly flavorful, but it takes a great many to make up a jar of jam. Hence the limted supply and high price. Nevertheless it puts all other strawberry jam to shame. Tiptree is probably the only company in the world who still takes the trouble an expense to make this unique product.

Customer Rating: Summary: Little scarlet fever Comment: I have been eating Little Scarlet for 41+ years, as our family has proudly enjoyed this gem as "our" family preserve. Is it worth $17? ABSOLUTELY! However, think twice before putting this with peanut butter! This is a jam best enjoyed on a warm, crisp plain english muffin in the morning, or sneaking a generous teaspoonful in the evening. As I write this, I am visiting friends in England. I am heading back to the States tomorrow with quite a few jars of Little Scarlet...at a price that, even with the dollar tanking miserably against the pound, is quite the bargain (though the most expensive preserve on the shelves here as well)!
Customer Rating: Summary: Little Scarlet Preserve - the best ever? Comment: Well it's not made from fraises des bois at all! Little Scarlet seems to be a specific variety of fruit that they grow only at Tiptree.
This must be the most expensive preserve I've ever tried and it's way, way ahead of anything else I know of. You can see the tiny individual berries suspended in a rich red jelly before you even open the jar.
Under the lid, mine said "Peter Wilkin, chairman, is the great grandson of the founder". Aren't family businesses just wonderful?
I tried Little Scarlet with fresh croissants and it was quite simply the best!
