Michael Jackson: The One is a persuasive summary of the Gloved One's career highlights. Jackson appears only in old clips, but the case for his status as an innovative and dominant artist in the 1980s and early '90s is made by an impressive array of witnesses: Beyonce Knowles, Isaac Hayes, Dick Clark, Wyclef Jean, Missy Elliot, and others. Clark recalls meeting child-star Michael and realizing he had a natural drive to be in charge, underscored by Jackson's decision to push "Ben" (technically a ballad sung to a rat from the movie Ben) as a single. Quincy Jones talks about partnering with Jackson despite objections by the Epic record label; his tale of a superhuman push to mix Thriller in 24 hours is fascinating. Also discussed is Jackson's pivotal appearance on the Motown 25 TV special, and his penchant for musical and stylish re-invention on Bad and subsequent albums and tours. --Tom Keogh

Customer Rating: Summary: GIVE IN TO ME Comment: YOU JUST HAVE TO GIVE IN TO MJ. YOU'LL SEE THINGS THAT YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN BEFORE IN THIS VIDEO. I WANNO ROCK WITH YOU MICHAEL!!!
Customer Rating: Summary: Not really worth it. Comment: Being a pretty big Michael Jackson fan, I felt pretty ripped off after watching this DVD. Though the special is OK, it doesn't hold a candle to any of Michael's other DVDs, and is overall a pretty pointless release. The program is too short and makes no effort to portray Michael's career in detail. All you get are video clips, some concert footage (often with spliced studio audio), and an array of celebrities dumping praise upon the King of Pop. Sometimes their commentary seems almost fake, like they're just waiting for their compensation check and could care less about the subject at hand. Plus, do most fans really NEED to know how great Michael is?
For me, the only redeeming parts of this DVD were the live clips from the Triumph Tour ('Don't Stop' and 'Ben') and the Bad 1988 Tour ('Bad'). But they were really just too short to savor.
So, if you collect Michael Jackson stuff, buy this DVD. Also, if you're on the line about being a fan, check this special out. Let Beyonce, Missy Elliot, Dick Clark, et al convince you to become one. But if you're already a die-hard MJ freak, stay away, far away.
Customer Rating: Summary: I Am A Huge Supporter...but I was Cheated! Comment: First of all, I am as big of a MJ supporter as you can get...I have website, and promotion to show that he innocent...however..that can't take away from the fact that THIS SUCKED!
First of all....why the hell did he put a CBS special on a DVD? I mean....leave it on TV, the special wasn't that good in the first place. It didn't show my favorite MJ material, that were number ones...including : We Are The World, Remember The Time, In The Closet, You Are Not Alone, Earth Song, and You Rock My World.!
Only 39 minutes!? How ridiculous.
If you want true MICHAEL JACKSON MATERIAL, check out the following:
Michael Jackson Dangerous: The Short Films
Michael Jackson History 1
Michael Jackson History Volume 2 (The best)
Number Ones
Buy any of his CD's....JUST AVOID THIS!
Customer Rating: Summary: The ultimate dvd to own The One Comment: I remember seeing this same special on CBS but couldn't get to my vcr to tape it. I'm glad to own the dvd though because I don't have to worry about commercials. I am a very big Michael Jackson fan. From Off the wall to now, my love is hear to stay. This dvd takes a look at what he has done through out his career. There are guest appearances by, "Beyonce, Quincy Jones, Dick Clark, & others." If you are not a Michael Jackson fan, you might be one after you see this dvd. I have been a Michael Jackson fan from the very beginning of his solo career. I loved to see the video for "One more chance." I wish they would play that on television more offten.
Customer Rating: Summary: waste of money Comment: first of all, let me just make it clear that I'm a huge fan and supporter of michael jackson, but this DVD was not worth my money, because I already have it taped from when it aired on CBS. This DVD cut out a little bit of parts that were shown on CBS, but not on this. And there is no Wanna Be Starting Something video on this, I don't know what one of the previous reviewers is talking about. By the way, the special is completely amazing, the version on CBS anyways, I really needed to watch something like this during this hard time in michael's life. The only thing missing was more intense footage from the Dangerous, HIStory and Invincible eras, those eras were equally as good as the previous 3. Michael Jackson is a legend and will continue making great music in the future I hope.
