Editorial Reviews:

Witness for yourself the rigorous training of Marine Corps Boot Camp. See why it's considered by many to be the toughest military training in the world. This unique 50 minute video takes you as close to the training as you can get without actually being there. From the recruiting process to the unveiling of the Corps' newest Marines on graduation day, you'll be amazed by the spirit and dedication of the young men and women who take up the challenge of recruit training. Shot on location at the recruit training depots at Parris Island, SC and San Diego, CA, this in-depth look at the making of a Marine has been acclaimed as an important work and a must see for anyone who thinks they have what it takes to become one of "The Few, The Proud." Molded in a furnace of shared hardship and tough training, you'll sense the pride, passion, and esprit de corps felt by those who earn the title...Marine. Also this DVD version includes the rare 1955 film titled The Challenge which shows young male recruits undergoing boot camp at San Diego, CA.

Summary: Marines.........the best,always haved,always will
Comment: I thought this was,and is a wonderful video,I inlisted in the marines in 1971 and was in MCRD San Diego for 13weeks served two tours of duty in nam. Went in as a brat, wouldn't listen to anyone,or anybody, snot nose punk, ganster wanna be. And after getting my a__ chewed out almost daily,i came out a man with pride,a sense of being, respect and honor for myself, learning to work with others, loving my country much more. Had i not made that move,I'd ether be on drugs,in prison,or dead.my sons will be joining soon and I know that wherever they may be,they will learn and understand what it really means to be an marine.

Summary: Marine Corps boot camp
Comment: The video does a good job of documenting Marine Corps boot camp but does not do as good a job as "The Crucible". Recommended for those interested in Marine Corps recruit training. The video only covers enlisted boot camp; those interested in Officer Candidate School will have to seek that insight elsewhere.

Comment: This book was very helpful in helping a young man deside if he really wanted to be a Marine are not. Also, it is a good book to read.

Summary: I'll Give it 3 Stars......
Comment: While this documentary about Marine Corps boot camp is pretty good, I have seen better.
If you want to see EXACTLY how a Marine Corps D.I. is get the R rated documentary "Ears Open,Eyeballs Click"
It's a bit more intense than is shown in "The Making of a Marine" which is kind of tamed down for the masses.

Summary: Excellent but ...
Comment: This is an excellent video on Marine Corps Recruit Training. Anyone considering joining the USMC, their families or just anyone interested would be well served by this film.

The Discovery Channel 3-hour film on recruit training is just better. Nothing wrong with this and it isnt as long but given the choice I would choose the Discovery Channel video.
