Qigong: Wuji Short Form delivers an experience that reaches beyond westernized concepts of fitness to ancient health beliefs based on a more holistic approach to exercise. Qigong is founded on traditional Chinese medicine and centers on Qi (meaning vital life energy). Qi is believed to come from the area of the lower abdomen and Wuji style movement aids in pulling energy from this core while concentrating on breathing and motion. Garri and Daisy Lee Garripoli instruct this video with a comfortable and approachable pace that provides great explanation and practical examples. This 40-minute workout begins with the basic principles of Qigong and participants are encouraged to open their hearts and minds. These fundamentals really help the first-time exerciser to feel comfortable with the practice and gain understanding for the next phases of this workout. The remainder of this session is divided into four separate eight-minute routines that aim toward gaining balance and optimal strength. With names such as Tai Chi Bo Balancing, Swimming Dragon, Dragon Pearl, and Bagua Xun Dao Gong, one may fear for the accessibility of these routines. But in actuality this regimen is welcoming to all levels of fitness (and Qigong knowledge). Buddhist self-massage closes out this workout as the Garripoli's remind us that, "wherever the mind goes, Qi follows." The slow and exact method of Qigong offers activity without strain to joints and tendons. This regimen would be beneficial to special population exercisers, while at the same time keeping the most advanced cultivators of Qi content. --Olivia Voigts

Customer Rating: Summary: Great video if you lack time. Comment: If you have a busy schedule and you want a way to relax your mind and body either before your day begins or after your day ends, this is the tape for you. If you want to learn about Qigong, definitely pick this one up. With an excellent learning format, Garri and Daisy Lee do a superb job of teaching and demonstrating a sometimes difficult form of "moving meditiation" to learn. If you've tried Yoga and wanted more, or if you're looking for a way to relax on a busy schedule, I strongly recommend you pick this one up - you won't regret it.
Customer Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Surprise for a Complete Novice Comment: My intention was to buy (yet another) yoga tape when a friend said, "why not try this one." I had heard of Qigong in passing, but essentially knew nothing about it. This tape will only give you a very supperficial understanding; however, its strength is in its knowledgable, comforting leaders (Garri and Daisy) and beautiful, flowing postures. This is not energizing as those hooked on Reebok aerobics, fartleks and power yoga would define it. I found that it energized the spirit and soul, while the movements, accompanied by deep breathing, infused the body with a feeling of well-being and active relaxation. I definitely see this as something I could do regularly to come down from a hectic day.
