Windows NT Server 4.0 was designed to help developers build and deploy business applications faster than ever before. The Option Pack integrates new Web, transaction, scripting, component, and message-queuing services directly into Windows NT Server 4.0. New management tools in Windows NT Server 4.0 and the Option Pack help you set up Web sites, manage content, and analyze usage patterns to improve your site as it evolves. Multiple Web sites on a single machine, innovative Web-publishing features, customizable tools, and new wizard technologies make Windows NT Server 4.0 the best platform to publish and share information securely over corporate intranets and the Internet. The Option Pack includes Internet Information Server 4.0, which makes Windows NT Server 4.0 the easiest way to publish information and bring business applications to the Web. Microsoft Transaction Server 2.0 provides the easiest way to run scalable, robust applications on the Windows NT Server operating system. Microsoft Message Queue Server 1.0 is a key part of the Microsoft Active Server platform and provides an easy way for applications to communicate with other applications over a network by sending and receiving messages. Internet Connection Services for Microsoft Remote Access Service enhance the current Windows NT 4.0 Server remote-access service, enabling corporations to further reduce remote-access costs through customizable client software, centrally managed phone book services, integrated authentication services, and simple administrative tools.

Customer Rating: Summary: I am still in shock..... Comment: I got a copy from what was the used section. It was like new.
Customer Rating: Summary: Stable and Reliable Operating System Comment: Windows NT Server is a highly scalable, reliable and available operating system that meets the requirements of the overwhelming majority of the enterprise and medium size business-computing needs for data management, messaging, transaction processing, Internet services, and file and print infrastructure. Supported by a significant majority of the world's systems providers, Windows NT Server also offers customers (if you're the firm installing the system) with an integrated, multipurpose and cost-effective operating system. One can argue that Windows 2000 Server would be more cost effective but only if you're starting a system out from scratch. It has been the experience of many pre-existing NT based firms that the real cost effectiveness lies in productivity. Productivity that is based on a stable operating system and clients.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not very ... developer friendly Comment: I have been programming activex in NT for years. Each time I update the software, I have to reboot the server to release the object that already loaded in the memory. Even though I did a set object.close and set object = nothing, sometimes it didn't kill the process successfully. Other than that, I think NT is ok.
Customer Rating: Summary: Still thinking about NT 4.0?? Go for 2000. Comment: Why would spend money on soon-to-be obsolete NT 4.0? Go for 2000 server, it will save you money.
Customer Rating: Summary: Fairly solid Comment: We have used this product for over 3 years and have been mostly satisfied with its performance. We are a shop that runs both a variety of UNIX platforms as well as NT 4.0. NT, while providing a nice graphical environment, still lacks much in the way of reliability and flexibility. Even for the seasoned UNIX user, NT's permissions can be some what cryptic. Record locking can be a real nightmare, often requiring the reboot of the server to release a record that has been locked. Still overall, it is a fairly solid performer.
