For better or worse, Phil Collins's "In the Air Tonight" was the "Stairway to Heaven" of the '80s, winning radio stations' listener polls and even lending its designer threat to an episode of Miami Vice. Hits recalls the days when the Collins name on a disc ensured its immediate embrace by programmers and the public. How you feel about these songs will depend on how you felt about them then; despite the undeniable niceness of "Take Me Home" and "One More Night," they're unlikely to win over anyone who didn't adore them to begin with. Those who cared, though, will no doubt be gladdened to find most of Collins's biggest tunes together on one disc. --Rickey Wright

Summary: Phil Collins - Hits
Comment: Phil Collins' 'Hits' (1998) is a 16-track retrospective of his most popular solo releases, plus a cover of Cyndi Lauper's 'True Colors' included as the only new song on this CD. Although the songs do sound like they were made specifically for Adult Contemporary airtime, Phil brings power and feeling into his music - both in singing and in instrumentation - even if some 'critics' dare to say otherwise. Some songs like 'Don't Lose My Number' and 'Hang in Long Enough' are missing from this compilation, but the hits chosen here are more than enough of a bargain for those that love Phil's music. Recommended.

Comment: Phil Collins is one of the most underrated pop singers,of the past 25 years.Despite having many top ten hits,grammys,and an Academy Award;many people still criticize Phil for his bubble gum pop music,and syrupy ballads.But this criticism is harsh; if his music was so terrible,why do people still like his music after all these years.Phil Collins is talented,with great vocal ability,and A knack for playing drums.That being said,this is an excellent collection of Phil's songs from The 80's and 90's.Great pop songs like"Two Hearts","Sussudio","Take Me Home""Easy Lover",and his number 1 smash"In The Air Tonight".This Collection also features ballad hits like"Seperate Lives","One More Night","Groovy Kind Of Love",and the academy award nominated"Against All Odds".If you want great pop rock,and ballads,with A good beat,and enjoyable lyrics,this is your collection.Phil has never sounded better.

Comment: I have been a Phil Collins fan since I was younger and grew nostalgic after hearing a song on the radio. I immediately went to Amazon and found this CD. I am enjoying it immensely and often in my car. The product was delivered quickly and in great condition.

Comment: Most of Phil Collins' best songs are there.
A pity that it didn't include some of Collins' hits from the "Brother Bear" film soundtrack (e.g. "On My Way").
