A superb two-disc set of Narada's finest recording artists, from David Arkenstone and Eric Tingstad and Nancy Rumbel to Nando Lauria and Dordán. Narada has assembled a wide assortment of musical glad tidings that encompass New Age-like pop arrangements with larger ensembles, Celtic interpretations, jazzy and neoclassical pieces, and a host of acoustic readings, the least of which is Billy McLaughlin's "What Child Is This?" Whether you like straight-ahead arrangements like Arkenstone's playful and more produced "I Saw Three Ships," or improvised pieces such as the enchanting rendition of "Carol of the Bells" by Kostia, The Best of Narada Christmas does a good job of pooling the finer works of its artists in one Whitman Sampler that packs value-plus--and enough seasonal atmosphere to turn your listening environment into a shaken snow globe. --Martin Keller

Customer Rating: Summary: THE GENTLE SOUND OF CHRISTMAS... Comment: Narada Productions is an independent New Age record label that was formed in the early 1980s. The label is well-known for producing orderly and reflective acoustic instrumental concept albums. Piano, classical guitar, violin, cello and wind/reed instruments are the fundamental players featured on Narada productions, but other instruments are also sometimes included. It's a graceful and delicate sound, and it usually has a calming effect on the atmosphere wherever it's playing.
The Best of Narada Christmas is a neatly produced 2-disc set that includes 28 songs of the season performed by various Narada artists. Some are traditional (O Holy Night, Silver Bells, O Come All Ye Faithful) and others are more obscure (Mistletoe Waltz, Ukrainian Carol, Celebration). Nothing silly or cute, just serious music that reflects the spirit of the holiday in a mature and thoughtful way.
A Celtic flavor is prominent on the album, and a jazzy acoustic neo-classical character runs through the songs as well. There are no solo vocal performances, but it's obvious that the subject matter here is the birth of Jesus Christ and the holiday that celebrates the event. The music is light and easy, but it still manages to capture the essence of Christmas. Nancy Rumbel and Eric Tingstad's version of Silent Night is especially atmospheric and moving.
Every year at our house, The Best of Narada Christmas plays in the background as we decorate our Christmas tree and begin to celebrate the new Christmas season. The unassuming sound quietly sets the mood and eases us into the spirit of Christmas in a gentle and colorful way. Very nice.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
Customer Rating: Summary: The Best Of New Age Christmas Music! Comment: This album is a wonderful compilation of Christmas songs by some of Narada's best New Age artists. Very relaxing, and a good album to play while having a meal or working on holiday related projects!
Customer Rating: Summary: Lovely Music, Easy to Listen To Comment: I could listen to this CD forever...and do!! It is wonderful and I love to wrap presents, decorate the tree, entertain, anything with this music on...perfect for anything during the holidays...and even after!
Customer Rating: Summary: My Very Best Favorite Christmas CD Comment: Since I always start listening to Christmas music in November (sometimes I just can't get enough of it) this is always the first CD I play. As a matter of fact, it's on now while I search for a possible new 'very best favorite' Christmas CD.
I gave a copy of this to a friend for Christmas a few years ago and she plays it all year round. It's the kind of music that seems to lend itself to helping you get into a relaxed and emotionally peaceful mood.
Can't say enough good things about Narada's music. Listen to the samples and you'll be hooked. It's not your typical church sounding music - a very nice twist on the old holiday favorites.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not The Frozen Food Section At The Grocery Store Comment: I spent HOURS looking on Amazon for instrumental christmas music this year and found this true 2 disc GEM. The compositions are varied and thoughtful and hip enough to entertain your children yet tame enough to play at your family get togethers with your Grandma present. I did not dislike even 1 track on this compilation, and for me to make that statement is a great leap indeed! It is NOT elevator music you are subjected to in the frozen foods section, on an elevator, or on terminal ignore with your credit card company. The styles and interpretations presented here are varied enough to keep you thoroughly entertained and a great stress relief for the holidays. Of particular note is my personal favorite "Carol Of The Bells". If you are as tired as I am of trying to keep up with Sarah M's new Christmas album and whether or not Celine's is worth the money.... give this one a try!
