His leadership helped turn the tide of World War II. He rode his military success all the way to the White House. Dwight D. Eisenhower's life was a never-ending success story. He graduated from West Point and rose rapidly through the Army ranks. His effective tactics and skillful diplomacy as Supreme Allied Commander in Europe during World War II paved the way to the presidency, where he enjoyed two productive terms and vast approval. In this compelling profile, friends, family and colleagues shed light on one of America's greatest heroes. Rare footage shows the defining moments of his life, from his military victories to his swearing-in as America's 34th president. And noted historians reflect on his enduring legacy. From his childhood in Kansas to his long tenure as America's elder statesmen, this is the authoritative look at the life of Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Customer Rating: Summary: The missing bio Comment: This is the biography that should have been in with the set, "The Presidents" from the PBS Home Video Collection to complete that set. Ike was a cool peacekeeper managing hot headed generals. It's no surprise the country liked Ike, and both political parties courted him to run for president in their party. This is a short piece which could have been expanded to include so much more, but it is good all the same.
Customer Rating: Summary: Dwight Eisenhower Comment: Being the big General in Europe in World War II was enough to get Eisenhower two terms. He played golf while the nation dug bomb shelters. Grade-schoolers ducked under their desks in drills as if they would shield them from hydrogen bombs. Elvis Presley fathered modern music and the Sexual Revolution. Eisenhower's chief contribution was the Interstate Highway System. Interstates changed everything. Even numbers like I-40 run east and west. Odd numbers like I-65 run north and south.
Customer Rating: Summary: DDE- the greatest American militarist of all-time Comment: Eisenhower was perhaps the greatest military leader our country has ever had next to MacArthur. The 5-star General is a little lacklusterly portrayed in this- not enough violent scenes, but that's something that I'm into and really like, but history buffs would find it to be very informative.
