Summary: My "Adore" experience.
Comment: The night I first listened to this album was on June 21, 2002 which was the night I bought it along with "MACHINA: The Machines of God" and played that one right after. I need to start this off with the fact that I have fell in love with Smashing Pumpkins right when I was 14 years old when I heard their songs "Siva" and "Rhinoceros" from their new
album "Gish" Smashing Pumpkins were a relatively unknown band at the time but their sound was unlike anything I have heard done that way before. They were a bit on the psychedelic side with their music back then which was a refreshing change considering the Nirvana craze along with the clones so I knew that Smashing Pumpkins were different and since then I've had quite a long history with them but nothing they have done impressed me quite the way they did on "Adore" After I sat down next to the stereo wearing headphones at loud volume while reading the lyrics (a must with this album) The first track "To Sheila" comes on and before going to the second track I had to play the first one again because I was completely mesmerized by it's absolute beauty which I have never done that with a Smashing Pumpkins song before. I always knew they had it in them to doing something such as "Adore" and there were times when they came close such as the last five songs on the Twilight to Starlight side on "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" but they never reached its perfection until with this one. Deep down I always knew this is their true sound, i.e. dark, deep, melodic and somber. The special heart felt lyrics heighten the album. This is the first Smashing Pumpkins album I have ever really truly related to regarding the personal lyrics. Smashing Pumpkins have always made beautiful music. Certain past songs have reached the level of greatness while other past songs have disappointed however this album is them at their most beautiful and brilliant so regarding their somewhat shaky musical history I was a little ambivalent about buying this album and also considering that although I was completely unaware of this album until 5 months after its release, the only thing I knew about their new album was that it was musically different and that could either make or break an artist but in this case it made me love the Pumpkins even more. This album will continue to haunt me always. I truly believe that we true Pumpkins fans know that "Adore" is really what they're all about. For a long time I have always preferred "MACHINA" over "Adore" but I must say although "MACHINA" is absolutely brilliant as well and I'm not taking anything away from that album but the entire essence of "Adore" works much better as a whole therefore I believe this to be their greatest achievement with "MACHINA" running an extremely close second. As for the drummer Jimmy Chamberlain not on this album; I'm glad that decision was made because obviously he needed time to get his stuff together before getting back into the band. As for its lack of audience; I'm also glad because this album is personal and not for the masses.

Summary: the most under-appreciated album of all time
Comment: Adore is one of the greatest albums ever recorded in the history of music, and probably the most misunderstood. There is a reason why it sold poorly and why so many fans dislike it, but it has nothing to do with the quality of songwriting. Songs such as "Behold! The Night Mare", "Blank Page", "Crestfallen", "Daphne Descends" and "Once Upon a Time" are the most melodically gorgeous songs Billy Corgan has ever written, and make the songwriting on Siamese Dream seem amateurish by comparison. The real reason why this album is disliked is simply because it doesn't sound like The Smashing Pumpkins. The people who will appreciate this album are people who are most likely to never hear it.

The sound and tone of Adore are so different from their other releases it could have been done by a different band. The Pumpkins always had a distinctly American sound, but aside from songs such as "Ava Adore" and "Perfect", which sound out of place on this album, that sound is absent here. If the late artist Edward Gorey (who was also from Chicago) made music, it might sound something like Adore. This is dark, ethereal beauty (I don't want to use the word "Gothic" because most people have a strange view of what constitutes goth nowadays).

In conclusion, it is unfair to call this album "garbage", but if you are a Smashing Pumpkins fan it's definitely reasonable to assume that you will not like this album.

Summary: By far my favorite Smashing Pumpkins album.
Comment: I love their heavy riffs, which are completely absent here, but the beauty of the songs have soul of the highest level. This is easily in my top five albums from my collection of over 300. Every track is unlike anything the pumpkins have ever done, and a work of genius. The lyrics are on the highest level I've ever heard from Billy too. As long as the pumpkins next album is good, I'm happy, but if they went back to do something awesome in this style I'd be in the clouds.

Summary: "In you I feel so pretty..."
Comment: Adore by the Smashing Pumpkins is probably their most misunderstood album ever. I like this album, some of the tracks dabble in electronica especially on the first single, Ava Adore, I just love the lyrics in that song. Songs like Perfect, To Shelia, and Crestfallen display Billy Corgan's sensitive side. This is a stunning album, buy it today!
