Editorial Reviews:

For this release, Tupac Shakur adopted the pseudonym "Makaveli" in honor of the philosopher Machiavelli, author of the devious politician's handbook The Prince. Contractually his final effort for Death Row, it was recorded in seven days and was released on schedule in October 1996, despite Shakur's death a month earlier. Shakur was unparalleled at balancing the upbeat and the morbidly grim, and tracks like "Toss It Up" are such wonderfully catchy pop songs that the nasty lyrical digs at his then-current crop of enemies seem almost subliminal. Not so with album closer "Against All Odds," in which Shakur spells out very explicitly who he thinks was responsible for his ambush shooting in New York City. Overall, the Makaveli album feels so much like one man's complete exorcism of an overload of pent-up personal and professional pressures that it's hard not to believe that Shakur had all eyes on a new direction for the future. --Gregg Turkington

Summary: Classic!
Comment: This album is what REAL HIP HOP IS ABOUT! This was a well put together album as far as the lyrics, beats, and production! If you don't own this album, something is wrong! I am so tired of the garbage they put out nowadays, I only listen to like 10% of the rappers that are out now. I am strictly old school, best believe! Makaveli is in my top 10 best rap albums ever!

Summary: Boring...
Comment: After listening to this twice, I was left feeling bored and disinterested.

There isn't a single song on here that I would want to listen to more than once.

Sorry, Pac stans.

Anyway, RIP Pac.

Go get Me Against the World or All Eyez On Me instead.

Summary: amazing -dualdisc version-
Comment: no need to review the album which is my favorite from 2pac and hard to believe it was made in 7 days.

this dualdisc is great. the packaging is like a foldout little book. much better than those dumb jewel cases. i wish they would have included a little booklet with pictures or notes on the remastering but thats ok.

the two videos were great to see. i hadnt seen the hail mary one.

sound quality is great but not amazing.

Summary: Classic Pac Not Soon 2 B 4-gotten
Comment: The Don Killuminati is without a doubt a must have for any die-hard hip-hop fan. An instant classic and thriller with an extremely dark overtone that grabs hold of you from the beginning and never lets go until the very end. What makes it so great is you get the feeling that 2Pac could've recorded this high on weed and adrenaline while being incarcerated in a windowless foreign prison cell. It's raw, grimy, and devoid of the over-polished production that plagued many of the tracks on "All Eyez On Me". This is 2Pac at his best, in all of his walking contradiction, yet supreme authoritative style that every fan has grown to appreciate over the years. I first bought this the week it was released while I was still in high school. Recently decided to re-purchase after losing the old one and not having listened to it for a while. What can you say --- over ten years later and it's still holds up nicely when compared to today's not as great/weak hip-hop scene. This album is still banging. Still relevant. And still, 2Pac is deeply missed.
