The year is 1764, when a peace treaty between the Delaware Indians and the British requires that all white captives be returned to their people. Johnny Butler (James MacArthur), kidnapped by the tribe when he was a child and renamed True Son, is forced against his will to return to his white family in Pennsylvania. His escort, frontiersman Del Hardy (Fess Parker) and Shenandoe, a beautiful servant girl (Carol Lynley, in her feature film debut), try to help the boy adjust to his new way of life. But the white man's injustice and cruelty drive him back to the Delawares, where even greater dangers await him!

Customer Rating: Summary: Aftermath of the French & Indian War Comment: I think that this movie was well done and would be good for children to see to help them to understand F&I and life on the frontier.I would like to see it released on DVD.
Customer Rating: Summary: The Light in the Forest BY: Jesika K. Comment: The movie "The light in the Forest" And the book are absolutly different. I think the movie was alot better cause of all the action. I think the book was okah but not alot of action. In the book Cuylogo couldn't speak good english neither could True Son.
In the movie they spoke english very well. I really liked the movie. True Son meets a girl in the movie by the name as Shannan Doyie. In the book gordie was his brother but in the movie True Son didn't have a brother or any sisters.
Customer Rating: Summary: The Light in the Forest Comment: Here are some ways of telling how the novel and the movie is simular. One way they are simular is because they both have the same settings. Another way they are simular is because they had the same charactors. The last way I think they are simular is because True Son acted the same way in both the novel and the movie. These are some ways the novel and the book are simular.
There are also many ways they are different from each other.
One way they are different from each other is because in the story it said that True Son didn't know how to speak english he only knew how to speak Delaware. Another way they differ from each other is because in the story it said when True Son arrived the first time that his biological mother was sick. They are also different because in the movie True Son and Uncle Wilse got into two fights. The last way they are different is because in the story it never mentioned anything about True Son and Shenandoe falling in love but in the movie it did. Those were some ways they were different.
Customer Rating: Summary: I really couldn't get into! Comment: I really think you shouldn't get the movie. I would rather get the book even though it would be a long or medium book to read. I actually believe that instead of watching the boring movie you should read the novel. Why is because when you read the book it makes you not want to put the book down. But if you watch the movie it will put you right to sleep. Also if you read the book it will have interesting characters that are not even in the movie. The movie is nice but it has different events and characters. Another thing is it doesn't really bring the picture out on how that person should really look. The book and the movie are just like hot and cold-opposites.
Customer Rating: Summary: The Light In The Forest Comment: I have seen the movie and read the book. I liked the book better. The reason is because the movie was not like the book. I liked the book because the book does not have any love scenes in it. The movie has Shenandoe instead of Gordie. And in the book Cuyloga seems younger than he looks in the MOVIE. And Aunt Kate seems nicer in the movie than in the book. I would think that people should watch the movies then read the book.
