Being a parent Is one of the most rewarding experiences a person can have. But when your infant or toddler becomes ill or faces a potentially life-threatening emergency, the experience can be terrifying. ILLNESSES explains what to do when your child is confronted with fever, poisoning, seizures, dehydration, croup, choking and more. Quick action and a clear understanding of what to do can make a difference in the recovery of your child. ILLNESSES will also give you valuable tips on childproofing your home, what signs and symptoms to report to your doctor or 9-1-1 dispatcher. ILLNESSES also contain a review of infant and child rescue breathing, choking, and CPR based on the latest American Heart Association guidelines. ILLNESSES along with Volume I, ACCIDENTS are "must have" for every parent and should be watched and reviewed by every member of your family, your baby-sitters, and day acre providers. Review these videos periodically to keep your skills sharp. New updated release. Winner of 27 awards.

Customer Rating: Summary: Covers the basics Comment: This video is basic. It covers poisons, croup, upper resporitory infections, fever, seizures, choking, diarrhea, dehydration, infant & toddler airway obstruction, and infant & toddler rescue breathing, infant and toddler cpr. Toddler is defined as over one year of age. There is video demonstrating everything that is being said - it is not a sit down lecture.
For a few of the early segments they showed children who were actually ill and you could hear what a croup cough sounds like. The video covers what signs to look for with each problem, what to do and when to call the doctor or EMS (the Emergency Medical Services).
All cpr, airway obstruction and rescue breathing segments are done on appropriate sized rescue training dolls.
Overall this is a good video, but I felt it was rather short and didn't cover that many illnesses for the cost of the video. You may want to see if your library has this before buying. Otherwise it is basically useful, especially to reinforce what you've read about these things. The visual cues may help you remember things when/if you need to use it.
