In moving interviews with such luminaries of the movement as Bob Moses and Congressman John Lewis, as well as with the use of archival footage, Mississippi, America details the drama and danger faced on a daily basis. Appropriate attention is given to the three voter-registration volunteers who were murdered by a conspiracy of local lawmen and the Ku Klux Klan. After documenting how difficult victories were eventually won, the video ends with a poignant segment focusing on the crises of poverty and insufficient education in Mississippi today.
