Customer Rating: Summary: Big changes for Aurora Teagarden Comment: "The Julius House" is the fourth Aurora Teagarden mystery. Aurora Teagarden went for years without dating. Then in a brief amount of time she had a torrid relationship with a police officer which fizzled fast, and another relationship with the town minister, that never truly heated up. Now 31, Aurora is getting married to an older man, Martin Bartell, who she realizes that she doesn't REALLY know. She knows Martin has big secrets but she is ready to marry him anyway. Charlaine Harris never really spells it out for the reader, but I believe that Aurora feels like she is becoming a 'spinster'. She wants marriage, a real relationship with a man so much that she doesn't care that he has secrets as long as she can pretend they don't exist. Shortly after she and Martin marry, Aurora learns some of his secrets. And now Aurora finds herself with a new house, the Julius House, and its mystery of how the family disappeared six years ago. That mystery is a good, entertaining one, but even more pressing is what Martin is hiding. The new characters are Martin's 'friends' who have moved into the apartment attached to the Julius House, and they are intresting as well. Angel is particular was well drawn and I can't wait to see if anything intresting comes from her character. Altogether this was an extremely strong volume to the series. I think I enjoy this one better than then Harris's Shakespeare's series. I also think this series is getting more engrossing as the go along. Recommended to Charlaine Harris fans as well as mystery fans.
Customer Rating: Summary: All of her books are wonderful Comment: I am reading the Aurora Teagarden series for the first time. I'm so glad that Charlaine Harris' publishers are reprinting her older books. This series does have something in common with her vampire series, although there is nothing so dangerous as a vampire in it.
I've read enough of her books now to know that she starts each series with a heroine who is damaged in some way, and that as the series continues the heroine becomes much stronger, because of the damage and not in spite of it.
Aurora doesn't look damaged on the surface, but she is a very tiny, odd looking woman that no one takes seriously, and she doesn't seem to be able to attract a decent man into her life. By this book in the series that has changed. She has met the love of her life and is engaged to marry him. In a previous book she inherited enough money to have made her life comfortable. She is no longer living on the edge financially. In all of Charlaine Harris' books, each book is an individual story, but there is also always the continuing story arc about what is going on in the lives of the characters. I like that combination a lot.
Each book in this series is a mystery, and in this one Aurora falls in love with a house that has a mystery built in. The previous owners, the Julius family, disappeared one day many years previously and in this book Aurora and her companions solve that mystery.
Customer Rating: Summary: Roe Teagarden is Great! Comment: I had read all the Aurora Teagarden books with the exception of this title. I picked up last week and read it in an afternoon. The mystery keeps you guessing until the end. It's a great, quick read, as are all the Roe Teagarden books!
Customer Rating: Summary: Charlaine Harris has another winner Comment: After reading multiple series by Charlaine Harris, with lots of great characters, I found this book and the Aurora Teagarden series fun and different. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a tale spun with fun, and not TOO long to enjoy quickly.
Customer Rating: Summary: A Surprise Comment: The first few pages of this book bored me a bit, but boy am I glad that I stayed with it. This is the best Teagarden book so far. It is complex and takes surprising twists and turns not seen in this series before. Charlayne Harris is a terrific writer. All of series are great. I can't imagine that this book will disappoint. If the first few pages do, stick it out.
